You bought yourself an excellent rifle, Oke. The Russian made SKS rifles are by far the best ones. I own one myself and it shoots like a dream. The 1950 on the receiver does indeed indicate the year of manufacture. The Russians made hundreds of thousands of these rifles in the 1950s before the AK became their general issue weapon. Many were later exported to their "socialist fraternal allies" abroad. We encountered lots of them in Vietnam. Many of these rifles were sold in the US, mostly in the 1980s, but the Russian made SKS is getting pretty hard to find nowadays. Most of those for sale today were made in Yugoslavia, and while they are good weapons, they are not as reliable as the Russian made version. Have fun shooting it!

If your looking for info on SKS rifles, this is the place to go.
www.yooperj.com
This site is a wealth of information on the SKS rifle. Click on SKS on the left sidebar.
Also take a look at
www.sks-rifles.com

Mine is a 1954 Tula. Found everything I wanted to know on Yooper's website. Enjoy your SKS. Good shooting.

And you might try "Sksboards".
They have separate forums for Chinese, Yugo, Russian.
Not only are many of them highly experienced, but some of them live the 'SKS lifestyle' .

right now, i have seen excellant condition russians go close to 500 bucks. realisticly $400 for sure. go to brandx.com to find what all guns are actually going for. not what is being ask, but what has been bid on. forget about books and alot of opinions of others.
