Default Boresnake etc. reviews???

I'm thinking of buying a Boresnake for barrel cleaning my Ruger Mk3 Standard. The local dealer and gunsmith highly recommended it. What is your opinion regarding this cleaning tool? Also, I have seen a "cord", that attaches to the screw-in type brass brush, that is weighted so it can be threaded through the barrel and then the brush and/or patch can be pulled through. does anyone know what brand this "cord" is and is it an effective barrel cleaning tool?
Thanks, ahead of time, for any helpful information.

I have been using a simular method for over 50 yrs to clean my guns. Mine isn't store bought though. I just use some strong string with a weight on one end (usually a nail). I can attach a patch, or brush to the other end, and pull it thru. Why would I want to pay someone good dollars for something I can put together for pennies? Does the bore snake work, yes. So does my method.

I bought my first bore snake a few years back, and loved it so much I have one for all of the calibers I shoot. You dont have to worry with attaching brushes, then patch pullers and patches. One pull of a bore snake is like pulling 2 brushes and about 20 patches at once. Problably the best thing is when it gets dirty, you just put it in the washing machine. They are great for cleaning between firings at the range. I dont like the Otis cord type, because you still have to replace the ends through out cleaning and the boresnake is a all in one type deal. Get one and you won't be disssappointed.

I've gone to using the patchworm on all my 22's. Every couple thousand rounds I pull a tornado brush attached to weed wacker line through, otherwise just patchworm.

There is another thread somewhere discussing the boresnake. It is one of the best ways, that I have found, to clean the bore. I have one for every caliber that I shoot. On the last pull through, put a little oil on the end of it and the bore is oiled at the same time!

I think the thing you are talking about is made by a company name Otis, not 100% sure. I have one that I bought many years ago at the LL Bean outlet up in Maine, and have never used it.
