reading the Instruction manual for the 10/22, I am confused about "Stinger" ammo. Is it safe to fire "stinger" ammo with the carbine?

There is nothing wrong with shooting Stingers in a 10/22. Just know as it states (or used to) it may not eject a live round when clearing the chamber.
We always removed the magazine and fired one round in the ground-chamber clear. Ruger also prints half of the manual on the barrel incase you fail to read it. |

Many gun manuals will tell you not to do things that can be done, just to deflect possible lawsuits. If you follow every rule in some firearms manuals, you would never be allowed to load them.
Not that I'm saying you should discard the manual or anything in it... Just use common sense and feel free to ask questions here. Lots of knowledgeable people.

In my early 80s 10/22, I ran quite a few Stingers through it and never did have any problems with extraction/ejection. My rifle did prefer the Remington YellowJackets though...they'd shoot one-hole groups at 50yds while the Stingers would group about 1/2".
