Revolver or Semi-auto?

Which one is the more accurate of the two? And, how is the standard trigger pull on a revolver? Also, which would you rather hunt with?

A recent thread discussed this pretty well. If you scroll down several entries you'll see reference to what seems to be a definitive book on the subject of accuracy. Our local library is trying to get the book for me.

I seem to have read somewhere that the revolver is a little less accurate if shooting LR's out of a gun interchangeable with .22mag. If I were going to hunt with a revolver it would have at least a six inch barrel and I would either shoot LR's out of a dedicated barrel or .22mag if it had interchangeable cylinders.

I prefer a semi-auto, however, and I'm very happy with my Ruger MKIII 22/45 with 5 1/2 bull barrel. plenty accurate with iron sites. it's tapped for a scope if I wanted to hunt with it.

Revolver all the way. I don't know if it is a paradox or an oxymoron, but I want the worlds most accurate revolver but with no adjustable sights. Sights are like putting crome mudflaps on a ford escort. they take away from the beauty of the gun and some of the challange. Ironically most fixed sighted guns are dead on, but the ones that aren't make it more challenging. I think the key is to find the gun that turns you on and experiment with different ammos untill you find what shoots best in that model.

not being an expert on accuracy i would say that either would be about the same. semiautos have flaws conherent to accuracy as does revolvers,

in a revolver the bullet has to jump past the gap and isn't perfectly aligned with the rifling as it enters the forcing cone, causing slight deviations i would think.

while an autoloader has moving parts, and play in the slide bbl fit.

for accuracy i would say a single action revolver would be the most accurate though, and best for hunting, although the lock time on one is greater than that of a 1911 or a double action revolver used in single action mode.

If they are both in good working condition, there is no reason why they wouldn't be equally accurate. I have a .22 revolver with a magnum cylinder and a .22 semi-automatic that are pretty much the same for accuracy. With either type, if any little thing is wrong, then there goes the accuracy.

Thanks all for the opinions. The ruger mk's sure are pretty. But there is something about a revolver that I can't let go of. I do prefer fixed sights over adjustable. My .45 has fixed and I can't miss.

When a revolver fails, it is terminal.
A revolver has more working parts, this leads to murphy`s law.
When was the last time you saw a revolver at the Olympic`s or any upper end small bore event??

Some autos (model 41, Victor) have the sights fixed to the barrel, so the slide movement shouldn't make any difference. Strangely, my Woodsman is as accurate as my 41 or Victor, and the rear sight is on the slide . . .

The best option is to own several of each, revolver and auto, and see which one suits you best today!

ah, i haddent taken that into consideration. i know that my ruger single six isn't as accurate as the ruger 22/45 i once had.
