With the grits of course?

My bad....
But I've never seen a reason to like grits. There's certainly no taste involved. And the texture is...... ![]() Lutefisk comes to mind. ![]() Personally, I use lye to clean and disinfect. NOT for eating. ![]()

The best and worst grits come from Huddle House.
Best: as mentioned above, with some nice eggs to mix in. Good for soaking up excess alcohol. Worst: in the Smyrna jail, cold and congealed into a "thing" that pulled up the cardboard delivery box it was brought to me in. Hot grits are good. Cold grits are good glue. Or hockey pucks for those unfortunate enough to live in Yankeeland.

Every time I passed through the south, I did backflips trying to AVOID getting grits with my breakfast, and often failed.
Now that I have lived down here for 30 years and have sampled them on several occasions, I have to say that they actually ARE edible. Shoney's breakfast bar on Friday morning after a workout at the Y. Big pan of walpaper-paste lookiing gruel. I put a blob on my plate, salted and peppered them, added a little butter, and did the fork-test thing. They stayed on the fork. Hey, they were not even HALF bad. Very surprising!

I never could stand the stuff though, even as a kid. I think grits are part of a conspiracy to discourage any Yankees from moving south. ![]() ![]()
