Carver,
That's true for urgent car. You can go sit in an ER and they have to treat you. In fact, in border states, Mexicans come across the border on a compassionate entry to go to US hospitals for free (to them) urgent car. The system overall foots the bill. Healthcare reform is needed. I'm not advocating Obama's version, but changes are needed. There's no need for doctors to make as much as they do (specialists easily make over $300k), drugs to cost as much as they do, so many unnecessary procedures to be done, so many people to go without health insurance and drugs to cost so much. Sadly, when anyone tries to change things, as with anything in this country, so many lobby groups get involved. Try to change the above and you get nurses groups, the AMA, pharmaceutical lobbies, doctors groups, the insurance lobby, etc, all throwing huge amounts of cash to keep the status quo. Sadly, it will stay this way until the system and country are virtually bankrupt. Obama's plan will probably die just as Bush's social security plan did. Quote:

There already is health care rationing. Many people are self rationing due to lack of affordability, despite the negative long term personal and social outcomes. The US ranks 37th in healthcare according to the World Health Organization but ranks 2cd in healthcare expenditures.
Obviously the current system is not working, at least for most healthcare consumers. While government intervention is usually ridiculed it often focuses the attention of the scrutinized to become more realistic. Am I the only one who caught the insurance company CEOs on CSPAN defending rescission, the retroactive canceling of insurance policies of the sick? http://watchingthewatchers.org/artic...ioning-already (http://www.photius.com/rankings/healthranks.html)

U.S. ranks 37th? By what standard? If it is so bad, why do people from all over the world come here for treatment? Wonder if Michael Moore conducted that survey. I have not heard of the rescission of insurance policies but am not surprissed. What would surprise me is if the Congresscritters didn,t pass legislation to make this happen if the Insurance Co's cotributed enough cash to reealection campaigns. Thanks for the headsup. Sort of like John Grishams "Rainmaker".
