Ok folks...I don't know if this has been answered before, but when should I shoot my .45 ammo that's been sitting around? When should I replace it with fresh ammo? Here's my dilema, I have some Federal Hydrashok in .45 for home defense...I don't know about you guys, but I'd hate to blast away that nice ammo on paper bad guys. I'd love to hear your opinions and experiences on this matter.

Basically, as long as it hasn't been subjected to rapid
temperature changes, and has been kept fairly well, then
there's really no need to worry about it, for long term
storage, I'd keep it in an airtight/moisture/water proof
container, such as an ammo can that still has a good
rubber gasket around the inside of the cover.

ammo can last for decades if stored properly, cold temps
really doesn't effect it, but going from a very cold right
into warm can cause moisture inside of the round, other
than that you really haven't got anything to worry about,
I've got some ammo that's over 30-years old that still is
perfect in every way.

There's my .02, and Welcome To TFF Magnum74!

Welcome to TFF Mag74.

Yup...pretty much as Tac says. If the ammo has been in your house, it's good for a long, long time. If you've kept it in, say, an unheated garage where it's gotten cold during the winter and hot during the summer, it's probably still good for 5 to 10 years.

Military ammo seems to stay good almost forever. I've seen some 50-60 year old GI .45 ball that shoots as good as the day it was made.

Yup, I have personally shot hardball that I had around for 20 yrs with no problem whatsoever.
