With handguns, always two eyes open. Rifles, one eye only.

I am right handed but left eye dominant. I fire with one eye on rifles and 2 with handguns.

Close work, both eyes open, long or short gun. Target, one eye open, long or short gun.

For me? Varies. What's best? whatever helps you shoot better.

True enough, Tranter, but I think a good argument can be made that shooting a handgun with one eye tends to throw off the aim because most of us have one eye that is dominate over the other. I know that is definitely true for me. I do much better with both eyes open shooting a handgun of any kind. With the much longer sight radius of a rifle with iron sights, I don't think it really matters very much. With a scope mounted, it doesn't matter at all since the scope can be adjusted to compensate for the shooter's style of shooting. Just my 2d worth.

Both eyes open, handguns or long guns.
I had problems with eye-fatigue during the latter phases of competitions until I learned to shoot with both eyes open.

Both eyes wide open, most of the time. As a righty with left eye dominance, it is tough sometimes not to close the right eye if the sight picture is not right.

Target shooting rifle or pistol, one eye open. Deer hunting, one eye.

Combat pistol both eyes open. Cowboy pistols both eyes open. Cowboy rifle one eye closed.

For me it depends on the situation. Shooting combat, when my front sight hits the target I pull the trigger and continue to the next target.

i got to noticing more the other day when i was shooting my 22 rifle and i keep both eyes open most of the time. i only close one eye when i am target shooting and think about it i guess, i'll probably try to keep both eyes open from now on because it seems more natural to me.

I like the idea of both eyes open, but can't bring myself to do it evertime out of habit I guess. But they say when you close the one eye you loose virtually all of you depth perception and all of one side of your periferial-SP? so in theory I don't see a reason not to try and shoot with both eyes open.

I'm learning to keep both eyes open especially with red dots.
