well if you want something you know will be reliable and simple to use-get a glock. but it's lack of an active safety is a concern for some people. you do need to lube as with every other gun in the world lol. also it's trigger pull is nowhere as nice as a 1911's.

if you want a 1911, springfield and para are good brands-i own both. i would stay away from kimber-too many quality control issues there.

1911's are much easier to shoot accurately with than a glock, because of the short and light trigger pull.

glock might be the ticket if you want to carry, as they are much lighter. i have a glock and 2 1911's, they're all good in different ways.

If you plan on just owning a basic weapon and firing it a little then the Glock would be sufficient. They are a good and dependable weapon - though they lack a lot that a 1911 - and some other manufacturers offer ...

However, if you plan a getting into shooting and desire one of the best (if not the best) platforms available in weapons then the 1911 is difficult to beat. However, 1911s can be addictive.

While I own both, if I could only own one it would be a 1911.

Tell me about it, Kimber utlra compact 2 is the reason I have a bad taste for 1911's - $900 gun never cleared a single magazine without at least one stovepipe, tried every ammo type, still the dealer and Kimber said everything was OK with the damn thing, thats outrageous! Sold it one month later. I sure want one of those gorgeous 1911's, but have'nt cleared my palate of that Kimber.

I must agree with the comments concerning Kimber - they are sort of hit or miss in terms of quality and dependability. "IMO" they allow the customer to do their QC - instead of it being done in house before their weapons are sold to the general public. (I'm sort of overstating the case to make the point ... but regardless I won't purchase one).

Not all 1911s are created equal.

I had no idea. I had always heard the kimber's were great shooters. That is why I learn something on here all the time. Right from the consumer.

well said! i would never consider buying a kimber, besides the quality issues, they're just overpriced too. have you seen a kimber sis? nothing on that gun makes it worth $1,300, and the LAPD squad it's made for only has like 3 cops actually carrying one lol

i just bought a springfield armory champion operator-great gun!

That is a nice looking weapon. SA has always made a good weapon and also have good CS - if you need it.

Comparing apples and oranges. Glocks are so simple cavemen can use them. Basically an idiot's gun if you will. Learning to shoot is 50% of the fun. I prefer the 1911

Sam? Now Mike, Sam would never do anything like that!!!! He'd just ask if they were dishwasher safe or some other jealous comment typical of 1911 owners who prefer pistols that cost twice the price of the gun just to get them to shoot more or less downrange.

You just have to know that Gaston got it right with the Glock. Every gun related forum you visit has a "Glock v. 1911" thread. This would not be the case if the Glock was an inferior design. I think that a Glock holds its own against a 1911. It is what it is, a great dependable and accurate pistol at a reasonable price.

First I have to agree with Jacksonco, my son has carried the same one on duty for 20 years. We were still carring revolvers when I retired 21 years ago. Saying all of that I'm a 1911 fan having owned them for 50 yrs. Currently I have a Springfield SS Loaded, Colt, LTW Commander, Taurus 1911, and a RIA receiver with a Ciener Platinum 22 conversion. Then wanting a smaller pistol but on a 1911 platform got a Para Carry Nine. Like them all and have not had any problems with them.
