I doubt this will stand the court. A similar bill has already been thrown out by one of the circuit courts. I just can't remember which one it was.

This will make Newark and Camden wonderful places. Everyone knows its all those folks who submit to background checks and all the red tape who are at fault here.

Yeah, we all know that we should feel sorry for the criminal. After all, it's our fault that he's a criminal in the first place because it's not fair that we should work for what we own. He should have the same stuff we do even though he's too lazy to work. It's also our fault if he's a crackhead and we should feel sympathy for his poor tragic circumstances caused by his addiction

Well said sir.

Why does govt think its their job to tell you how many of anything you can buy. Just think if they said how many condoms or bottles of beer you could buy in a month. I tell you what, you can tell me i can only buy one gun a month when they also pass only buying one lottery ticket a month.

California has had a one gun a month rule for several years. The loophole, the idiot legislatures didn't figure was, PPT's are unlimited per month. Does NJ have that error in it's law?

Buy used handguns!

SC had a one gun (handgun or long gun) per month rule for nearly 30 years and repealed it because it had an immeasurable effect on violent crime.

Quote:
South Carolina Repeals ‘One-Gun-A-Month` Law

Wednesday, May 12, 2004

FAIRFAX, VA -- After three-decades, the National Rifle Association (NRA) is pleased to announce that the South Carolina Legislature has voted to repeal the current "one-gun-a-month" law, which has limited the rights of law-abiding citizens by prohibiting firearm purchases and establishing a 30-day waiting period between purchases. HB 3442 is now headed to Governor Mark Sanford.
"NRA is pleased that the people of South Carolina will no longer be subject to this unreasonable gun rationing law-- a law that has only affected honest gun owners and has never had any impact on crime," said Chris W. Cox, NRA chief lobbyist. "Gun rationing laws set a bad and unconstitutional precedent that government can limit the frequency with which a law-abiding citizen may exercise a constitutionally-protected right. If governments can limit law-abiding citizens to one gun a month, they can extend it to one gun a year, one-gun a lifetime, or no guns at all."

"One-gun-a-month" laws have been tried in South Carolina, Virginia and Maryland, and have failed in all three states. After South Carolina imposed its law in 1975, violent crime soared in both New York City, the supposed beneficiary of the law, and in South Carolina. In the 1990`s, violent crime declined nationally, but rose in Washington, DC, the supposed beneficiary of Virginia`s law. Maryland imposed its law in 1998, yet it has the highest robbery rate of any state, and Baltimore`s homicide rate is among the worst of all major U.S. cities.

"On behalf of tens of thousands South Carolina NRA members, gun owners and sportsmen, I want to thank the Senators and Representatives who supported this bill and Governor Sanford for acting to abolish this senseless law," added Cox. "Additionally, I would like to single out the efforts of several key lawmakers who ensured passage of this reform including Representatives Bill Sandifer and James Harrison, and Senators Hugh Leatherman, Glenn McConnell, and John Hawkins. The Second Amendment is stronger today thanks to the efforts of all those in South Carolina and across America who stand up to preserve freedom."

I live in Florida and last month I bought three .22 pistols. Big deal, two were used, one new.

These are the first guns I've purchased since 1995 so I don't think they could accuse me of hoarding a "cache of weapons" as the papers are so fond of printing whenever they find a gun in someone's house.

I just want some .22's for inexpensive target practice and I like the idea of having a pistol or two in case some of these Orlando area "Home Invaders" show up.

Many people are out of work and went on unemployment last fall. These people will be running out of benefits and extensions soon so I am expecting the crime rate to start rising soon.

Couple this with towns and cities cutting back on police forces and you have to be a fool to think you can just pick up the phone and have a cop at your door to protect you.
