Obsession with deer Rifles - The Firearms Forum

My wife tells me, I have an Obsession with Deer Rifles, I told her, Its only a Modest interest , I have a 270, 3030, 308,and two 3006s. I tried to explain that different hunts call for different caliber’s and Weapons. I thought I would go to the One place , I could get an unbiased opinion. The Addition of the 308 seems to be the Culprit, I tried to use logic, But mentioning that she only needs one pair of shoes and one pocket book was lost on her.

Do you know how much crap some of these ladies get into buying! Get their nails done. Do you have any clue how much make up cost? Don't even get me started on the higene stuff. Rent movies, get their car washed, while we have to let our trucks stay dirty. So you want another gun, so what. Go get a side job (if that is the issue) and go buy it. I think you need a .243 in the mix.

Seriously I am just messing with the women out there.

I think another form heading is needed. Lets say ( best excuses for a new Rifle or hand gun), the best one I heard. was a few years back. A guy I worked with, told his wife he really wanted to Hunt that year, but his Rifle was over 10 years old, And he was afraid it was not safe. I don’t know if they are still together. But she bought it hook , line , and sinker.

A lot of my new guns come in as guns of associates. As in "That's not mine, I'm just holding for JB for a while until he can sneak it in his closet"

So far, she hasn't caught on.....or at least called me on it. After 18 happy years (out of 25

) I'm still standing.

I had a lady once tell me her husband told her he had to get a special gun for deer,one for hogs,one for varmints,one for snakes,one for dove and one for quail................my kind of guy

Guns can be addicting,let's see,in the last year I bought a 7mmSTW,7mag,(2) 270's,300WSM,22 revolver,32s&w revolver,heck it must be a man thing!!!!!!!!!!

Shooting is a hobby and part of the hobby is collecting. So you can not just collect one. You have a good start but you still need more. The hobby never ends and the collecting never ends. That is what makes it fun. There is of course the shooting of all those fine fire arms. Good luck. It is an addiction just like any other hobby.

Good to see you aren't going overboard. Some of us aren't nearly as restrained, your wife has it good compared to mine. LOL I'd need to get a freezer obsession if all my deer rifles got utilized.

Funny how it started over 50 years ago with A Daisy BB gun and a couple years later an Ithaca 49. Today 2 Gun safes full of Rifles and shotguns. And a floor safe for handguns. Plus all the reloading and casting equipment and components, that have made their way here.

I have been buying guns for almost 40 years and my wife just got used to it. It was sort of one of those things that also let her get what she wanted. She walked by my safe one day and said "Where did all those come from" and I said "They just multiply in the dark" and then I said " I have both of our sons guns in here as well as my Dad's.

Anyway, If the other half is getting what they think is fair in the deal they usually won't say to much about what you buy as long as the bills are paid.

The 243 is an awesome deer round by the way and highly recommended although I think the 25-06 is better and I have both.

I thought about both , the 243 and 2506. But I load , 223, 22-250, 270, 3030, 3006, and now 308 and I would be adding .the 24 0r 25 bullet. I have 4 Different 30 cal bullets on hand, and should be able to work somthing up without adding another bullet.also 30 Cal bullets seem to be one of the few in stock.

The 308 is a great round and you will love it and I see your point about reloading. I have a room full of reloading material as I reload 9mm, 40 SW, 357 Sig, 45 ACP, 38 special, 357 Magnum, 44 special, 44 Magnum, 22-250, 243, 25-06, 270, 308, 30-06, 7mm Mag, 300 Win Mag, and 338 Win mag. That's a lot of brass, primers, bullets, dies, ETC.
