I have tried various autos over the years. I always come back to Sig. I love them. For all of my LEO career, we carried revolvers. Sig is as close to that as I feel I can get. I still have wheel guns, but I carry my Sig....just my .02. Also, consider that there might be a reason your instructor hemmed and hawed.....

I'm a Sig man myself. I have two P220s and a P239. Can't go wrong there. Finest quality handgun made these days in my opinion. I will admit that I've been having a load of fun with my Beretta 92FS. Seems like the old days when I carried an M9 everywhere. Bought four Mec-gar 18rd mags for it. Fireworks! ![]()

A 'toy' in the pocket is much more of a deterrent than a hand cannon back in the truck... Most people won't carry a full-size CC weapon at all times because it's inconvenient or they have a job in which they must have tucked shirts. Tuckable holsters are like saying, "hey, guess what I've got under my shirt..." While I respect the use of a full-size pistol as a CC gun, it does no good if the carrier deems it too inconvenient to carry. After all, we never know when the situation where we have to defend our lives may occur. If we knew, we'd stay home that day...

same here, although i havent had any experiance with them. it seems like to me they are guns to carry a lot and shoot a little. while a glock or a good 1911 will take all the shooting you can give it.

Dead Goat Butt? OK.....I'll save up for a Sig and do it right. Your right.....there was a reason he hummed and hawed. I just wanted to get off cheap. It's just like T5 lighting in the saltwater world. Taurus=Odyssea (OK maybe not THAT bad....let's say Nova Extreme) & Sig=ATI.
Now I just need to figure out what kind of Sig to get. I wanna stick with 9mm. Less kick. More control for the newb. |

If you purchase a large CC weapon it will definitely be a learning experience... I don't know why I offer advice any more on these issues as I've seen far too many people ignore me and buy a larger pistol that they do not carry...

So let's stick with Sig. What are some good recommendations in 9mm and .45 for the hell of it. My preference is a 9. |

![]() If you're set on a Sig, I'd recommend a P-239 in either 9mm or .40 S&W. They're very compact, have a good feel and will fit in a waist band... I don't know what good that will be for you if you decide that IWB carry is not for you. Good luck... ![]()

I forgot to mention that a good - and I mean a good - holster can make all the difference in IWB carry - or any other kind of carry. - you probably already know this, but a new gun deserves a new quality holster ...

Had all the original paperwork and box with it, it had been kept in a closet for 99.99% of it's life ![]() ![]() ![]() "So let's stick with Sig. What are some good recommendations in 9mm and .45 for the hell of it. My preference is a 9." I would recommend looking at the P226 for a full size, the P229 is a bit smaller and then the P239 is a nice compact. Personnaly, I think the P239 makes for a good carry choice. I've been trying to find a P229 Elite Dark model with the srt trigger. As far as new Sigs go, the srt trigger has been the best idea they've come up with. I'm not a big fan of the dak triggers, but with enough practice, I've heard good things about them. I prefer a da/sa trigger, I put in the time on the range to deal with the heavy da pull. No different to me than most revolvers, practice is everything.

srt is sigs Short Reset Trigger, shorter length to reset the sear. The DAK is a proprietary double action only trigger that is set around 6-7# pull. much less than the normal DA pull. Alot of different options that you can go with. What does your instructor have ?

Don't know. My wife and I were just over shooting the **** when he offered to take me under his tutelage. I would guess his Sig is a 226 just by the way it fit my hand. I meant to ask, but when the conversation shifted to guns I got a little overwhelmed with it all and forgot to ask.
I am going to walk over tomorrow and see what he has. Meant to get over there today but got busy cleaning my garage. It got a little out of hand. I want my music room back. OK so DAK I understand. Larry gave me a book to go through and I was just reading about that. But the SRT....Does this mean once the firearm is discharged, the sear resets quicker as the trigger moves to it's rest state, making it possible to discharge another round as soon as another round is chambered rather than the trigger moving all the way forward? Forgive me if I am off on this. I googled the word sear and have 20% understanding of what it actually is and does. |

The sear is the most critical component to how a trigger assy works and most importantly, feels. A little late in the evening to go into too much detail, but in simple terms, it's what you're releasing each time you pull the trigger, it's release allows the hammer to fall. Depending on it's design, size, shape etc, this is what is most affecting your #'s of pull and smoothness of pull.

I went over to a friends place one time. He lived in a trailer park. The dog came over and gave me the kind of growl where they show the teeth.... I was unarmed but i stood my ground thinking the dog was going to attack...and in the background was the trailer trash dog owner yacking something about not hurting his dog.... It never ceases to amaze me how BELIGERANT some of these dog owners can be.... One time back in Arkansas i was helping a friend with his car that was overheating. We were trying to drive it back to his place in short drives... we planned on doing this over a 3 hour period to make sure we never got the car too hot. We stopped by the side of the road on Hwy 62 and a big ol dog comes up growling... i stood my ground wondering what i should do. The F***ing owner comes down there with a 9mm to find out what was going on. His house was a good 300' off the highway and we were NOT on his property.....but since his dawg had come down there he also had to come down with a pistol..... We explained why we were on the side of the road and he got his dog and took him back up to the house. I hate dogs and some of their stupid owners that act beligerant..... mike gn
