Default ACORN loses housing funds!

Senate votes on Johanns amendment to cut off ACORN housing funds; Update: Amendment passes, 83-7
By Michelle Malkin • September 14, 2009 05:22 PM Just watched GOP Sen. Mike Johanns introduce his amendment on the Senate floor banning federal funds in the current transportation and housing appropriations bill from going to ACORN. Currently, ACORN is eligible to receive millions more in taxpayer funds through mortgage counseling, Community Development Block Grants, and the Neighborhood Stabilization Program — in addition to the tens of millions ACORN Housing Corp. has already received.

The vote is underway right now.

The Johanns Amendment is #2355 to H.R. 3288.

Johanns cited the BigGovernment.com sting videos as evidence that ACORN cannot be trusted with government money:

“Until a full investigation is launched into ACORN, no taxpayer money should be used to fund its activities. A vote in favor of my amendment is a vote in favor of the taxpayer and a vote against the status quo.”

He forgot to add the five most important words:

ACORN is a criminal enterprise.

5:42pm Eastern. Roll call vote still underway. Several Democrats have voted AYE, including Cardin, Carper, Inouye, Johnson (SD), Murray, Tester, Warner, Bingaman, Begich, Nelson (NE), Webb, Landrieu, Bayh, Conrad, Rockefeller, Dodd, Pryor, Hagan, Kohl, Feingold, Boxer, Nelson (FL), Brown, Harkin, Lincoln, Wyden, Baucus, Klobuchar, Kaufman, Shaheen, Lautenberg (switched from no to yes), Menendez, Stabenow, Leiberman, Levin, McCaskill, Reid, Feinstein, Udall, Bennet (CO) Merkley, Cantwell, Dorgan, Schumer…

Durbin was a no. I’ll have the rest soon.

The final roll call vote – amendment passes 83-7. I’ll post the full roll when it’s up on the Senate site.

This is the beginning, not the end.

The Dems are finally, finally on the defensive on ACORN.

Republicans, keep digging and pushing and connecting the dots.

Couldn't happen to a nicer bunch

So now I wonder who Barry will get to be his brownshirts? Well, redshirts, since ACORN people wear red tshirts. And anyone that watches the original "Star Trek" knows what happens to redshirts

Careful what we wish for, sometimes a cornered animal can be dangerous.

There is hope.
But the GOP and many Independents should not gloat or be complacent.

The Dems, among others always have their eyes on mid-term elections and House/Senate majorities. Few politicians want to lose their jobs.
Somebody mentioned a cornered or wounded animal.

The Dems still have most of the press, to use as their version of 'Pravda' (official party propaganda organ).
In the old Soviet days, the paper 'Pravda' was from the Russian word 'truth'.

bcj: I've twice chatted and plinked with a guy who left East Germany about a year before the main wave of East Germans were allowed to slip out via Budapest in '89. This guy has lived in northwest MS and as we were plinking he told us that socialism is a lousy system. He lived hard-core Sozialismus.

The dems are going to appease the masses over next year hoping people will forget past and reelect
them. It'll probably work.

I hope not. I am looking forward to 2010 elections just so I can see how many of the democratic seats get turned over just like Clinton in his first term.

I can't see them coming back from the poll numbers they have. They are a lot of vulunerable reps like the moonbat in my district.

ACORN and the SIEU share offices. Two sides of the same coin.

The Rathke brothers run ACORN and SEIU from the same office building.

Just because the Senate voted, doesn't mean the House will follow suit.

Hopefully this is not the end to the ACORN & ASSOC. fund cutting. "we" need to investigate them, but who are we going to get...Holder?

Any way the elections go, we have to let them know that they are on notice. That if they don't stick to the Constitution and start restoring the freedoms we have already lost, then they're out.

I really question the grip on reality some of these people have. And Princess P - I'd call her out on the black top if she would come. Maybe get some of her gray matter shook up and working again...hey remember old tv's and sometimes the picture would go out. You just had to slap it upside the cabinet and it would tune back in. There ya go.

It gets better

House Votes to Strip ACORN of Federal Funding
The House voted 345-75 to strike ACORN funding from a student aid bill with two voting present.

House Republicans succeeded Thursday in eliminating federal funding to ACORN, the community organizing group that has come under heavy fire in the wake of damaging undercover videos that purport to show counselors giving advice on tax fraud to a "pimp" and "prostitute."
