Default Moose pies.....

And I don't mean the kind you collect from following a moose around.

Moose Pies

3 cups flour
4 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
1 cup uncooked oats
2/3 cup parmesan cheese
1 cup milk

In a large bowl mix the dry ingredients. Next add the cheese. Use parmesan if you are using a filling that is Italian based. I like to use cheddar or a blend of shredded cheese if I am using leftover BBQ or taco meat. Finally add the milk and mix well. Use a large ice cream scoop to portion out the dough. Roll the dough out into six inch diameter circles. If the dough is too thin then it will tear when the filling is added. Spray a cookie sheet and transfer to rolled dough onto it. Add about a tablespoon to a tablespoon and a half of filling to the center of each crust. Fold the crust over and crimp the edges with a fork.

You can use any leftover meat to fill the pies with. Leftover BBQ and taco meat work well. Roast, carrots, and potatoes also work well. Chicken and turkey would be good too with white gravy and veggies added in.

Ya they were. We just got finished with dinner. Spiderman mac and cheese, kidney beans with ham that has been cooking all day, and meat pies made with leftover BBQ moose roast. Good stuff!!

Sounds good Flannelman.
Love the product placement of the Tony's.
When I was glancing through the thread titles I thought that I saw "Moon Pies". I had to check it out.
I love moon pies.

Sorry for the thread drift.

I actually make a sausage bread that is similar.
Take a thawed frozen bread loaf. Place on wax paper coated lightly with flower and roll it out flat (sprinkle with flower to prevent sticking to roller)

Brown ruffly 1 to 1 1/2 lb of ground beef and pork mixed (or your favorite meat, I've even done this with crawfish ). When meat is starting to brown add onion, red and green bell pepper and green onion. Season to your liking.
Once meat and veggies are cooked, drain well.
Cover flattened bread dough with meat & veggie mix.
Cover with cheese of choice. I use a mix of Fire Jack and Mild Cheddar. Use lots o' cheese.
Roll the bread dough up in a jelly roll fashion and bake at 350 till bread is golden brown.

Sorry for the lacking measurements. I cook by eye.

This is a blood vessel clogging death mix, but it's killer good.
Good for kicking around the house & watching the game.

We can't live without Tony's. The first time we went to visit our friends down around Lafayatte they turned us on to it. We couldn't get it here so we had to buy several cans the next time we went down there. Great stuff!!

How bout the RC cola? Can't eat a moon pie without it!

Sounds interesting! How do you serve it as a spread? I'm not familiar with white truffle butter.

Kutaho is right, truffle butter is INCREDIBLE !! Black, white it doesn't matter, they're all delicious. It just takes the smallest amount of truffle to add tons of flavor. In my case, I use truffle oil to impart the flavor, just because its a heckuva lot cheaper than buying some truffle. Truffle butter on asparagus is good one, also spread over a nicely seared sirloin.
Me and fungi get along very well, my favorites are Morels very lightly battered and fried in butter with a tblsp of clarified bacon grease.

Ya us too. I haven't had Morels but I hear they are excellent! We use a lot of portabellas and I love the flavor they add to dishes. So truffel butter would be good over broccoli and stuff like that too I bet. Kinda use it in place of regular butter?

That is Tony's permanent home. Right by the stove so it is easy to reach. I think my family goes into withdrawals if we run out of Tony’s.
