I have a couple of surplus CZ82's. They are nice shooters; but show some wear. Any tips on how a novice could make them look better (without spending as much as I paid for them). Thanks.

CZ had a couple variation of the 82/83. Some had a black polycoat that tended to peel overtime and some were blued. I'm assuming if these are mil surps then they are coated. CZ steel is of a nature that is like no other. You can cold blue it and it will look OK. The frame and other non heat treated parts will look ok but the slide and hammer will make you want to scream for the hills. having delt wit a few of them and one of them being my own 83 you may want to consider another oven baked poly coat from brownells or dura coat from lauer custom weaponry. Both are equivalent in price. The dura coat will require a airbrush to apply. the polycoats from brownells come in spray can but require a oven to cure the coating. If your married, your wife may not like it to much hanging and curing in her oven. Both are about a 20-30 dollar investment.
Search out a posting from LD Bennett. He had a poly coat job that he did turn south b/c of one of the polycoats that he bought was not very scratch resistent, so stay away from that one. (there are several different types to choose from) I belgium blued mine and it came out like new but it takes prep, practice and a boiling tank or large pot over a stove. |

Thanks guys; been over to Brownells site looking. I'm going to try it soon. I've got a good wife; she will be glad to have me fooling with the guns I already have- not buying another. We are OTR truckers together; but both home with medical issues. I've been seeing some huge price reductions on guns I hadn't got around to (Dang It)
