Hello
I'm thinking of installing a heavy barrel on my gun. The problem is it was designed for a regular barrel. I want to know what type of gunsmithing would need to be done. I also want to thank you all, for all of the help you have given me.

If you can operate a hex key and read, you can do it. It`s a bolt on part.....no smithing required. It won`t fit the factory barrel channel though, so you`ll have to open it up (pain in the a$$) or get a new HB (Heavy barrel) stock (easy and cheap) Regards LTS

I'm going to keep my original stock because i'm thing of doing a bedding job. I'm going to free-float the barrel. I didn't think there would be any smithing required, but the company said so. I guess they were talking about widening the barrel channel.

Just a side note on your project:
You said you were planning on free floating the bbl....
This isn't a good idea (if possible at all) with a 10/22. You probably figured this out right after you learned how the bbl is attached to the reciever. If you want to free float anything, do it to the receiver. Bed the bbl. A free floated bbl in a 10/22 will never give you consistant groups, nor will it last very long. The aluminum rcvr just won't take it (for long).

It is not a 10/22 it is a Savage model 64. It is pretty accurate seeing as how it's only had a trigger job(done by yours truely).
