Mmmm, mushrooms. I just wish I knew how to tell the "good" ones from the "bad" ones and the "fun" ones.
Thus mine are found in the grocery store.

We do em right out of the woods, those are chantrells.
The only ones who water them, are the non locals selling
to the buying station. We know are mushrooms, there
part of our diet.
I'm mildly surprised Angryisme that you are familiar with 'wetting' down mushroom.

Hey Kutaho, any good books you would suggest about mushrooms, I have 13 acres of wet wooded hill side in the PA Laurel Highlands. I'm sure that I could be eating some of the local Fungi.

Here in Michigan we pick morralls. We save them for christmas and sautee them with onions, mix them with sour creme and paprika. It's a Hungarian style mushroom gravy.

Man that sounds so good. If there's one thing that I wish i could find down here in Tx that I can't, it would have to be wild mushrooms. Can't beat a pan full of'em sauteed in butter and served up hot over a rare ribeye.

Nice hunting Kutaho and great pic of the little man too !

I have two that I rely on.
national audubon society field guide to north american mushrooms
And
http://www.washington.edu/uwpress/se...ks/MCKNEP.html

The 2nd is more for the PNW.

Both are excellent!

Keep in mind that fungi can be deadly. There are imposters out there that resemble what you want to harvest. Habitat will weed most of them out, but some go as far as requiring spore confirmation using a microscope, and knowing what to look for.

Be safe, and good hunting.
