There are a few things that the Chevy comercials are doing that irritate me. One of them is where they have a lawnmower with a honda motor and they say something to the effect that this is the only thing they can't compete with Honda on.... Its just like the old burger king comercials from the 80s... rip on the other guys product "mcd's" instead of talking about the benefits of their own product being flame broiled instead of greasy grill cooked. Directv does the same thing....their mockup of the incompetant cable company execs sitting around the table thinking up wacky ideas... I HATE those comercials!!!! ![]() The new MPG ratings are done on a Dyno now to make US car companies seem better on mileage than the "supposedly" foreign cars. It doesn't take in to accound all the things that the foreign transmissions do to conserve gas in real world driving. The numbers for gas mileage on cars these days is not acurate and is skewed by corruption.... I drove GM products for years and i do believe they made better cars in the past but thats my opinion. I just don't like those comercials.... Another comercial goes on some kind of tirade about "they or them" guys... the one where "they" have to consult each other when supposedly hit by gas mileage statistics and they go into meltdown.... I just hate their comericals. And being that i have had some rude experiences at their dealerships it feels like a continuation of an attitude that i believe they have had for some time. There is another comercial out there by lincoln. If you have seen their comercials.... they seem to me like they are trying to apeal to kids or rapers more than grown adults. I just don't like they way they are putting themselves forward in their comercials. Sorry if i made anyone feel like i was knocking their cars... mike gn

My 02 F-150 has 130,000 miles on it. Biggest expense has been replacing 4 coil packs. A/C blows as cold today as it did when we bought it. My car is a 06 Ford 500 with 109,000 miles. It is without a doubt the best riding car I have owned, and has not had a second in the shop for repair. It gets 25-27 mpg. I will continue to buy Ford because of my experience.
Now the Dodge pickup I traded on the 150 in 02, lets just say.....not so good.

Not every car of a certain model is going to get identical mileage, a lot of people seem to think they're all going to be the same. My big boat of a Buick pulled 33mpg on the interstates returning from my trip south in September.
Oh, and for some reason, I want to punch Howie in the face. It's not the commercials though.

I don't care if you knock my car. Just saying my experience has been otherwise... annoying commercial notwithstanding.

Mpg figures are horse-hocky. Too many variables, e.g. how you drive, when you drive, WHERE you drive (hilly or flat-land). Unless Hell freezes over, my current domestic-labeled conveyance will be my last domestic-labeled conveyance. I’m returning to the Toyota fold.

Ole Howie is just trying to make buck like the rest of us. He is just repeating what is on the script anyway. I remembered when he played for the Raiders, he was a monster and have always liked him because of his hard nosed playing style. Hey, its hard to get a flat-top haircut to be as perfect as his is.

In the old days the government certified average fuel economy on American cars by testing cars without rear seats, spare tires, jacks, a/c, and anything else they could remove that added weight or taxed the engine. The imports were certified the way they arrived at POE. The imports still beat the snot out of the American cars in mpg's. Now days, they use a mathematical formula based on the weight of the vehicle and the cubic inch displacement of the engine and other unreliable factors such as atmospheric pressure, temperature, moon phase and number of times a groundhog sees his shadow. The mileage figures are total nonsense. But, come on Howie, a Chevy Suburban gets better mileage than a Honda Pilot. Quit sniffing the gasahol fumes. Besides if you raise the hood on any model Chevy you will find the point of origin sticker which clearly states that nearly all Chevy engines, transmissions, etc. come from Japan, Korea or China. GM might assemble them here but they sure don't make them here any more. Even my one ton diesel dually's engine is made by Izuzu.
The bottom line is, not enough American's would buy a true economy car. Look up the number of hi-mpg. diesel powered, "small" cars sold only in foreign countries where petrol is 6-8 bucks a gallon. GM killed the diesel back in the 80's with their Olds 5.7, 350 cu.in. conversion engine. People still bring up that piece of crap when I mention diesels. Just like GM killed small compact cars when they answered the challenge of VW Beetles with their Corvair. Their philosophy should be, " if you can't beat em, kill em." Our gov. should have let them go bust. |

I drive an 03 Hummer H2, 14mpg on the hwy. About the same as the old Suburban I replaced with it. Had 225,000 on the Sub when I sold it, great truck. My wife has a Dodge Grand caravan with 110k on it & is getting expensive to maintain. Parts for the Hummer are cheaper than the Dodge, especially if you avoid the Hummer dealership, which I do, I hate those guys. I have always had good luck with the GM brands in terms of reliability, but I am meticulous with my maintanence & most of my miles are on the hwy. I know we won't purchase another Chrysler product, & although I like them, would have a big problem giving Gubmint Motors any of my money as well..

Glocknut-
So true! Not ruling out any foreign manufacturers, and I don't buy new. Never have, probably never will. Worst investment in the world as far as I'm concerned. CK
