Are you sure about that serial number? I thought Rock Island M1903 serials only went up around 348,000.

I just checked again and it is a Rock Island model 1903. Ser# 383113. Is it possible that this a reciever already stamped with the name and number but was assembles by Springfield later on? I have found a web page saying rock island made guns up to the lower 400,000 range. But I don't pretend to be an expert. I've serching the net for more info. Any help would be great.

You're right! Apparently the RIA serials did go up into the 400,000's.
Here is a link to the best M1903 site that I have found. There's a lot of info here and you should probably post you question there. (If you haven't found it already.)

I know this is an old thread, but I just stumbled onto it, and since I have Remington 1903 A3, I wanted to be able to find this thread again. Thanks to this link, http://m1903.com/ I determined the rifle was made in 1943, and even found a photo of one, which I saved. I removed the military stock long ago, and have no idea what happened to it, and the photo was a good reminder of what it looked like. Clearly stamped on the barrel is “RBLT. August 25, 1945".
