.22 ballistics at 50 yards? - The Firearms Forum

I've shot my .22 on an indoor 50 ft range but now want to try some outdoors bench rest shooting at 50 yards. Can anyone give me advise on how much bullet drop there is between 50 foot and 50 yards? Also, how much wind effects .22 bullet at that range. I shoot Eley Target. If there is a link to anything pertaining to .22 bench rest shooting and/or .22 ballistics it would be much appreciated. A .22lr will go straight for about 60-70 yards the drops 3 inches between there and 100

No bullet actually goes straight! What FTK87 really means is that at distances out to 50 yds. you will never be any higher, or lower, than about a half inch. Gravity takes over any bullet once it leaves the barrel of the gun. Check out the ballistic tables at this site for .22LR. http://www.gunsmoke.com/guns/1022/22ballistics.html

You'll see that velocity makes a big difference at 50 yards if you play with any CB ammo in particular. The drop I get when switching from 1260 FPS CCIs to 710 FPS or 740 FPS CB ammo is pretty substantial, in the 3"+ range if I remember correctly.

You will find very little point of impact change. My daughter and I regularly "migrate" from 50ft to 50 yd, and the amount of sight change required is minimal. The path of the bullet intersects the line of sight twice, and I suppose at 50ft. it is on the way up through the line, and at 50 yds. it is falling back through the line of sight on the way back down, as it drops. try shooting your 22lr at 200 yards. the wind will move your round very much like a 30cal high power at 1000 yards it is great practice

Zeroed for 50 yards, I have experienced drift exceeding 1 inch with cross winds.

Attempting to read wind without flags is impractical. I have seen conditions with six flags between the bench and target at 50 yards pointing in six different directions. This makes it difficult.

My .22LR Ruger MKII Target Pistol with 5-1/2" BullBarrel with 7x Scope mounted, Zero at 50 gives me zero at 25 also, 35 yards is about 1.5" high, and about 8" below zero at 100 yards.

I shoot an old Remington 540X in benchrest 50 yd compitition. 2010 will be the 4th year. On a calm day I can hold the 10 ring with 50 rounds of Eley Tenex. You don't encounter very many "calm" days. I have found that the wind can change the impact point up to an inch in any direction at our range.
