"I was so short, that............" (example: I could sit on a dime) Sharon LarryJK Senior Chief Moderator III Posts: 762 (11/10/01 12:19:10 am) | Del Re: I Was So Short.... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Short? Hmmm....that's sort of a tough one! Got to think on that one!! LOL! warpig883 Member Posts: 1 (11/10/01 8:53:41 pm) | Del Re: I Was So Short.... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Howdy everyone. I have checked this place out before and wandered in the front door. (it was open) Whenever I was short whether it was leaving a duty station or at ETS time at every formation when the 1st SGT called attention I would yell out SHORT. Really used to get them going. Nobody would rat on the person doing it. Also used to yell out short at choice times when singing cadence when marching. And whenever the command pulled some crap and had everyone in a bad mood all a person heard was SHORT! custom signature Remf Moderator Posts: 334 (11/11/01 7:06:57 am) | Del Re: I Was So Short.... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hey!!!!!!! Another thing we used to do was post our orders on the door to our room in the barracks with FIGMO (F**k it got my orders) in big black letters. That was always good for an ass chewin if the wrong person saw it. custom signature bhd8ball Member Posts: 33 (11/12/01 5:44:24 pm) | Del Shortimers Stick -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- As each Shorttimer became the "shortest" the person getting on the chopper to go to Saigon would pass along the shorttime stick. An actual stick decorated with feathers, ribbons, etc. Just carrying it around made the days shorter. I got the thing about 10 days before I left battalion. I promptly went to a bunker and stayed there until the chopper arrived. (not really, but I SURE wanted to). homer4 Moderator Posts: 1733 (11/12/01 7:55:37 pm) | Del ezSupporter Re: Shortimers Stick -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I remember seeing an occasional stick here and there 8ball. Didn't have in our unit...would have been cool tho. Welcome to ya Swede! Hope ya like the place and put your feet up. ...and two hard boiled eggs. longshot1 Moderator Posts: 137 (11/13/01 10:04:40 pm) | Del Re: Shortimers Stick -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Damn I haven't thought of that since the 60s, i.e. shortimers stick I remember a bunch of us would make them, carry them around for some reason I can't remember and then pass them on when we left. I recall making the darn thing out of a 7.62 tracer bullet and the casing with some type of copper rod in between of about 18", I think it was a brazing rod. Anyway shined it up with brasso and hated to part with it. NickG GRUNT V.I.P. It had seven 1 1/2 inch sections and each day of the final week i had planned to shorten it an section at a time. As things turned out I was able to get a hold of my orders and most records and got out of country 10 days early. Too many good men die when they should not. It is doubtful that anyone ever forgets what they see in times of war.
