Do you own more than one 1911 of the same caliber?

I'm thinking about a Wilson .45, simply because I love the way it looks, and I understand that they shoot a very tight group out of the box(opinions on this as well?). Problem is, I already have a Colt .45, and the only reason I can come up with for having two is maybe using one for a backup while hunting, while keeping the other in mint condition, and using it very little...I understand that several of you carry a compact pistol, but other than that, what would your reasons for having more than one be?

I have a Para Ordnance P16-40 that I am converting to 10mm. I also have a Springfield Armory 1911 V-16. It is a longslide with 16 ports to tame the recoil. The V-16 I use for hunting. It is designed to shoot the 45 super round. I reload 230grain bullets for hunting. They have chrony'd at 1000fps, some reaching 1100fps. I have both ready to use at the drop of a dime. I know that there are guns that should only be looked at, but I can't afford any of those. If I buy a gun, it is going to get used.



As for an answer to your question, you can never have enough 1911's.

There are many reasons:

they're a lot cheaper than ex-wives, and a lot more fun. And while there are laws against polygamy, there ain't none against polygunnery.

It stimulates the economy.

It's a better investment than tech stocks.

It gives your other hand something to do.

18+1 of 10mm instead of 40 S&W. Besides, I have about a thousand empty 10mm cases that I can reload.

I guess I'm a "more power" type of guy. ALthough, I have never loaded over any books specs while reloading.

I feel that one of the biggest problems in society today is the acute lack of 45s...especially more than one 45...in America's homes. By golly, I think a new one should be bought with every birth...like a savings bond. A new one should be purchased for each birthday after that...maybe even anniversaries and holidays could be marked with a new .45!!! Buildings could be built in the shape of the 1911! National monuments could be constructed to honor the 1911.

I envision a world free of the 9mm menace, the nair-do-well .40SW and the cranky, loud old 10mm...a world where everyone has not just one .45...but many. Ladies and gentlemen, the 1911 was created by God and as such will be the basis of my upcoming Presidential campaign in...

Keep 'em comming. If I plan to purchase a 232 acre deer lease, buy a four wheeler, a used 2,500 dollar camper this season, I'm going to have to have a real good excuse for the Wilson! The good thing is my wife will be able to enjoy all of it with me...camping and stuff is right up her alley.

Okay, Loki...I admit it...I have 2 browning hi powers in 9mm, and I have a .38 super 1911. I try not to admit to these things in public...but sometimes my guilt overcomes me and I have to fess up.

And I must say...you have me on the emptying of the pockets...even reloading as I do...the 9s are soooooo cheap.

Crpdeth...perfect excuse for the Wilson. After you get that 232 I'll come out...tell you some jokes in person...and maybe even hunt with ya if ya are real nice!!!!!!!!

Hey Doc, just a little off topic, but the CQB full size version is the piece I've had my eye on...suprised?
What can you tell me about the "out of box performance" @ say, 25 to 40 yards?
I've read G&A's recent review on it, but found it lacking in information somewhat...I love the idea of the tritium sights, but I dont understand as to whether or not the rear sight is just "dot" or tritium as well.

I've got my competition gun....a tricked-out pin '11 that I built.

My carry gun....tricked-ed out lightweight Commander.

My historical gun....an original WWI Colt '11, complete with WWI dated web belt, holster, mag pouches and magazines.

And just for good measure, a British Enfield Mk.VI in .45 acp.

Does this qualify me for Attorney General?

I have ZigZag, I have. The first two .45's I ever shot were very well tuned 1911's. Still envious of Tye and his ability to use them and make them work so nice.

1-Remington Rand, circa 1943-44 45cal.

1-Springfield Armory 1911A1LW 45cal.

1-Ballester Molina 1911 45cal.

As it stands, there is and can be only 1 (one) caliber for the 1911 style pistol. That being 45ACP. The one & only!

I believe that the 38 super is a great gun in a 1911 and the 9mm can be made to work great also..
Heck I believe that everybody should have at least two in each caliber that you can find that you like..Even more if you can afford them..Are they really cheaper by the dozen ???

1-Essex with Ciener 22LR conversion.

Plus, lost my first one to a thief that broke into my house almost 25 years ago.

berto64 & Bompa, I have to agree that 45ACP is THE caliber for 1911. But the 45Super and the 22LR are very nice compliments to the 1911 for a lot more whump! and a nice inexpensive training round respectively. The 22 is very good for beginners.

Other calibers only add more versatility to the greatest design in handguns!

I have a Colt Series 80 Gold Cup National match (mid 1980's) in SS and a Gold Cup Trophy (2002) in Blue. They are just so purdy and they shoot real well. Why not have too? If I could afford it right now, I'd like a National Match from each decade. I also have a Springfield Ultra Compact 9mm with laser grips for carry - that's a sweet shooter for sure.

BTW, used to have an fxr myself...'82 model...lots 'o money dumped in to set her up just like a springer soft tail. Never should a sold her.

My FXR is a '92 evo - still looks new and rides great. I believe it was the best frame ever designed by Harley (actually, I think Erik Buell designed it). Anyway, it's a keeper and it does supplement the BMC Chopper I acquired last year and have been playing with (88"B H-D motor and trans on a rigid frame - can you say best of both worlds?) and now sporting a Primo Brute IV open primary.

Anyway - where was I - ok - as many 1911's as you can get, the better. I'm acutally now searching for a Colt 1911 in 9mm to customize for a practice gun.

I have two 1911s U.S. Army Colts. They help you walk straighter when you have them both strapped on. Also, if you're cleaning one, you always have the other ready for intruders.

Shooter22, The LDA 7.45 is great. I got introduced to the 14 rd. double stack but the wide grip does not fit my hand. The 7.45 was dead on out of the box, but had a problem with HP ammo. After four boxes of ball ammo it wore in and now just runs and runs. Haven't tried lead semi wad-cutters yet but I have a bunch loaded up. The trigger action on the wide grip made me want one. Sorta half Glock and half Colt Gov. I had two Meg Gar mags for my Colt and they run without a hitch in the 7.45, plus the 8+1 is nice. I added gold medallions of the State Seal to the rosewood grips for a personal touch and am fitting an extended slide release. Looks like a keeper.
