Seems like months ago while some of us were on the MSNBC VNMBB I recall our esteemed Senior Chief John telling us a story and mentioning Snoopy's Bunker. I starting going through some of the things I hadn't looked at in over 20 years and guess what? I doubt that this is the same one that you had in mind Chief, but what the hey..it shakes a memory loose. Spent some time in there.

Take care, Gene

Man, you troops have pretty good memories--that seemed like ages ago I told you about Snoopy Dog's Hootch. That happened in '68 when the battalion was up north at Dong Ha. The guys living in this hootch had scrounged a wing tank off some aircraft (stole it probably) and they would fill the tank with water and let the sun warm it up in the daytime--luxury warm water douches, they joked. They built a big old Snoopy Dog that they placed astraddle of the tank--a cowboy Snoop with a ten-gallon hat twirling a lariat made with a piece of steel cable. Stars and Stripes took a picture of it--it made the troops smile with the humor of it all, in that glum-ass place during TET. During the big attack we sustained in April of 68, Snoopy Hootch took a direct hit with a 122mm rocket. Borders, Hartlage, and Nevins were killed instantly and a lot of the others were evac'.d out to the Repose. I have a photo in my yearbook of the scene--as soon as this writer from Las Vegas returns my books, I'll ask Stan to post if for me. Wilborn sends.

The 82mm mortars were as accurate as ours and effective as all get out as ya'll are well aware. The 122mm rockets weren't as accurate and would tail off left, right, under and over their intended marks but their clout was tremendous.

You could gauge the 82's if they were to walk them in on a position but the 122's,well knowone knew where they would land.

That was a terrible tradgedy Chief.

Stan, I couldn't open the object that you asked if it were the shower in Dong Ha. I would be interested in seeing it--send it to me if you can, please. John

John,

Please accept my apology. I found this picture on the Internet and just listed it's web page as a link.

Seems that this page is not always available, so I copied the picture posted it in the space that Prodigy gives me.
