Default 1911 the best one?

Is the 1911 really the best combat pistol of all time? I think so. What do you guys think and why?

I think the 1911 has more tradition than most others.
But what about the old wheel guns the military used to use?

But when it comes to ability, capacity, and ease of use . .. I would think that something like the HK or Baretta would be the winner.

I mean in terms of all-around "best." Accuracy, reliability, power, speed. I don't like the Beretta. The 92FS/M9 is too big for my hands. I don't shoot very accurately with them either. And I heard the military had lots of problems with them when they were first adopted in '85.

I started shooting them aropund 40 years ago, have 2 now (ARMSCOR's) and I really enjoy shooting them. I carry one or the other pretty often. I also love revolvers, and have other pistols as well. They are great pistols, but as far as "THE BEST?"....I don't think there is such a thing.

The 1911 is a great defence pistol for many people but many people think it's an obsolete POS.
It depends a lot on what you want and need and what you like.

I am NOT one of those who worships the 1911, but I love shooting them and know pretty much what to expect from them by now.
I am comfortable with one around.
I'll leave it there.

It might not be the best one but it would be my choice, but I have not been combat so my opinion is moot.
