Default scope adjustment

ok, i got this scope for my 22 and i think it is 4 clicks = 1 in at 100yrds. so if i was shooting at 500 yrds what calculation do i use to find how many clicks i need to be on target? and also for any cartridge. i plan to try it at 500 but am getting a .223 this summer and would like to know. i think the bullet drops 482" at 500yrds for a 22lr.

At 500 yards it would be 1.25 inches per click. At 482 inches, that would be 385.6 clicks for a 96.4moa adjustment. Does your scope have that range of adjustment?

To elaborate on what 'the rifleman' said - it's a simple matter of proportions. At one half the distance each click gives one half the adjustment. At twice the distance, you get twice as much raise or drop per click - at five times the distance, you get five times the adjustment.

havent done it yet. i dont think my scope has that kind of adjustment. i also need to join the range ($35 a year plus NRA membership) but you get your own key and can go anytime. they also usually have weekends shoots. i would be lucky to hit it. i did some 100 yrd work on a steel target and that was fun. heres the link to the vid ( doesnt show me shooting but is fun to watch) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hSDjjGTkllg

they got some that push 1700fps, but are expensive. theres a youtube video of a guy hitting a watermelon at 400 yrds, and it penetrates to.

Thanks for telling me, now I have to upgrade my 300 yard shot.

This time I'll have a more accurate rifle.

When I was a kid we used to shoot at rotten pumpkins on the other hill...you just walk your shots in

Although it's kinda like lobbing mortars

But less angle than with a .45/70

I never shot purposely farther than 200 yards with any of my 22's but at that range they are easily minute of milk bucket. 1 click equals 1/2" but it was easier to figure drop, then aim at a point over the target and just drop them in. Nothing like sitting on the range next to 3 AR-15 shooters who are set up at 25 yards and they can hear my Marlin 60 make that plink plink plink sound after I fire and they finally realize I am shooting a nearly 50 year old 22 LR gun at 200 yards and they are shooting their vaunted fearsome man stoppers at 25 yards.

Keep doing that 100 yard shooting and stretch it out if you can. Its a lot more fun than shooting at ranges so close you could spit on the target from your point on the firing line.
