Default First time shooting Blackpowder, TOO MUCH FUN

This is the first time I have every used black powder.

The gun: .45 Colt / .410 Bore Taurus Judge.

The ammo: Goex Black Dawge Black Powder 45 Colt 235 Grain LFN

And the only word to describe the experience is WOW!

After 150 of these and a wip down here is the result:

Practically soaked it in Breakfree; It came out looking pretty good though, post cleaning image:

I don't know why but they seemed more accurate that the Hornady LEVERevolution I have been using. However, accuracy started suffering after about 100 rds. I ran a Windex (a tip from a friend) soaked patch through the bore a couple of times I was fine for 50 more rounds. I think there was a lot of fouling in the shallow rifling of the Judge.

As the post title implies, This was too much fun.

Good to hear that you had a good time. Those cartridges were probably more accurate cause they wouldn't be loaded as hot as the Hornady's I'm guessing.
I use glass cleaner with vinegar on my blackpowder revolvers and cartridge guns...has always worked well.

LOL! Black powder in an indoor range?

It had to be hellish smoky in there after 150 shots! I hope they had a mega ventilation system; if not, you better get checked-out at the hospital after every black powder range visit!

It actually has the best ventilation of any range I have went to, but it was still like walking into the office in Johnny Dangerously, next time it will be an outdoor range

Now I've got to try some 44 Special loads in my Redhawk!

If you can round up a .45/70 rifle, try a full case of BP and a 500ish grain bullet. Great fun.

What Blackpowder only revolver do you guys recommend?

I would prefer a cartridge gun though.
