Am I Un-American if I dont like the M1A?
My buddy just bought a Springfield M1A National Match edition. The price tag was closing in on $2000, and at that price I am very disappointed in it. The action and stock fit together very poorly The trigger is very stiff (NM is supposed to be a lighter trigger pull) The take down trigger guard is bent, or does not fit properly The safety takes a body builder with a tool to get it to engage. The hardware is flimsy The upper cover is plastic The metal blueing was done by a grade schooler And the wood looks cheap Was this thing a lemon? Or are military guns supposed to be kinda cheesy? Since I am sure someone will ask for it Gratuitus pic ![]()

I would be disappointed too with all that. I bought an M-1 Garand from the DCM after qualifying( back when you HAD to qualify) and it's great, shoots well, good overall fit and finish. MY buddy did it at the same time, his came and was a certified POS! Loose stock to metal fit, poor trigger and metal finish overall, and we could never get the bore bright, it sucked on the range.
A crappy gun is a crappy gun, and plenty of Americans hate the M-1, M-14 and the M-16. When I got the Garand, my Father( Korean conflict vet) couldn't understand why I wanted one, he hated that rifle. It's just a matter of taste. |

That is what he is going to do on Monday. Dont get me wrong here. I am actually a huge springfield fan. I was just kinda wondering if most M1A's were a little crude, or if maybe he just got a bad one.?. It was ordered off the internet, so he didn't have a chance to inspect the weapon before purchase. |

My brother got a couple through the CMP.
http://www.thecmp.org/m1garand.htm Both were in very good condition, but that was 15-20 years ago. At that time I think he paid around $600 each for them. And you didnt get to pick through them. You got what they sent you. Dunno if he got lucky or not.
