Default Church Carry? POLL!

Hey friends,

I recently took up argument with my church because they took what I feel is an anti gun stance and made it public that they want no one to carry into their meeting houses, permitted or otherwise. I feel that this is wrong on a fundamental level because God wouldn't give us a right to take it away on Sunday in his house. Be it known that where I am it is not against the law to carry into church so long as there is not a sign posted at the entrance stating they do not permit it. My church does not have such a sign.

In any case, what do you all think?

If you feel strongly about the subject and the church feels it can't trust it's parishioners it might be time to find another house of worship. If the church has a policy of being anti gun (not just concealed) then I know it would be time to leave. Where I live church is one of the illegal places to carry.

I do not want my ability to carry hampered by someone elses opinion of firearms. I carry and keep my trap shut everywhere it is not illegal. The places it is illegal I stay away from unless it is absolutely necessary I go there unarmed. In NH it's courthouses and the statehouse and everywhere else is legal.

I carry in church but my pastor knows it and welcomes it. There has been numerous attacks on churches and if I were you I would do some research on the subject and print out the results and meet with your pastor. If he is liberal on the matter, I personally would search for another place to worship. I wont frequent any business that refuses the right to carry and I cant sit under the teaching of someone who doesnt believe in my 2nd ammendment rights. It is just that important.

Have you asked them if you can carry a sword, if you have sold your cloak to buy it?

If the church does not want weapons allowed then you either accept that or move on to a church more in line with your views.

I accept that the church has the right to restrict weapons on its property. I believe the church has that right. I would not agree with that decission but it would be what it is. I would either work on the congregation to over turn the prohibition or I would take my support to a church that is more in line with my views.

Well, there wasn't a option for "I abhor organized religion, and refuse to step foot inside the alter of hypocrisy," so I didn't vote. If I did attend church, though, I would carry concealed, just like I do everywhere else (with the lone exceptions of the local courthouse-metal detectors- and all federal buildings) whether the church "leaders" liked it or not. I personally don't care who doesn't like it.

This, I believe, is just like the threads that appear, occasionally. "My sister and her husband are anti-gun, so Dad asked me to not wear my gun to Thanksgiving dinner, so as not to upset Sis and Bro-in-law. Do y'all think I should carry or not?"

My answer to that-type question has been, and always will be, "Ask the guy that told you not to wear your gun if he would rather have you there armed, or have you not be there. Those are the two choices - you being there without your gun is not an option. You armed, or you not there. They chose." So, go to the preacher and give him the same choices. "Do you want me and my gun to be in church Sunday, or do you want me to find another church? Those are your two choices." If he still says your gun isn't welcome, find another church.

Yup.

I would respect any establishments rules of welcome.
I would then exercise my right to go elsewhere.

I carry every where I go. If it's concealed, no one knows it's there. I agree with the other posters, if the church says no, then move on. I have even carried in D.C.!

I think that sooner or later radical muslims will attack Christian churches in an attempt to make people stay home.

Sure would be nice if a couple of ragheads with AK's were met at the door by a bunch of ex-military and police who know how to put someone down.

I think this is coming and it's just a matter of when.

At this point they do not have a sign... So it is legal here in Nevada to carry there just against their policy. I told the Bishop that he either accepts me armed or does not accept me. He has yet to respond definitively to my request for his authorization.

If he denies my request, then I will not be attending church. I will just study at home and continue to observe my christian beliefs.

IMO, if it's conceled, who will know it's there but you. And just like anywhere else, ya never know when you might need it to protect or defend and a church is no exception to the rules of a "nut"...there is no exceptions or guidlines for a crazed individual...that's just my opinon.

I voted it is up to the church.
Church is not a public institution; the building and grounds are owned privately by SOMEONE or SOME GROUP. I know; I tried to have ownership of our church put in the name of Jesus Christ, and the court house refused; it HAS to be in the name of some person or persons. In my case, we chose a governing board for the church, and they are all listed as 'owners'.

Having said that, it behooves us to abide by the wishes of the 'owners' of the property we are entering, be that a store, church, or private residence.

For my church, we absolutely welcome anyone who choses to cary into the service. As Pop's clearly pointed out, Christ COMMANDED us to be armed, even if we had to sell our CLOTHES to buy a weapon.

Now - if anyone really DID sell their clothes to buy a weapon, I would insist they borrow SOMETHING to wear to church so the pistol is not the ONLY thing they are wearing - - -

I see it, that when the Muslims get serious, they will attack the non Muslim places of worship. I will be ready to defend myself, country, and faith from the "religion of peace".

The way I see, gun-free zones are just accidents waiting to happen. I know there are people at church who don't like guns and become frightened by them, so I'd be polite and keep it concealed.

My personal pollicy on CCW is; "Don't ask, don't tell! If I don't ask no one can tell me no! If no one says no, and I keep it concealed, then no one knows but me. Here in TX we are supposed to ask in advance if no 3006 signs are posted. I don't ask for permission to do something that I already have the right to do.

I live in a backwater, America circa. 1950s. I have a Concealed carry permit and usually have a revolver in my vehicle. I have never carried concealed.

In times past, no one ever considered carrying to Church. Recent history in this nation has shown that there are those among us who will attack a Church just because it is a Church. Others will attack to kill a specific persons or persons and a Church is the place they want to make there point.

Now however we must take into account the realities of the modern world and what is happening in other countries. Consider the fusillades of bullets fired into church congregations in S. Africa, Indonesia, India, Pakistan, Malaya and other diverse places. Machete wielding attacks on churches in Africa, Rowanda and Nigeria comes to mind where whole congregations were hacked to death, machine gunned, blown up with grenades and set on fire. These attacks although sometimes more general in nature almost always fall on people seeking final refuge in Churches. They also died because they were unarmed.

The perpetrators of these atrocities have two things in common they were either Muslims, Communists or some other kind of Socialist or both. We have many of our cities that have large Muslim populations and we know from literature in some of these Mosques that they not only will they not condemn such actions in other countries by fellow Muslims but will give their full support for such activities. How long before we see something like that here? I thought never, but when I see this administration and Eric Holder dissembling on attacks by Muslim terrorists on our Military bases, Airlines and even Times Square for crying out loud, I begin to fear for my country. All in the time since Obama was elected. Sometime soon the Muslim Terrorists are going to get it right and a lot of people are going to die in this country and this administration in the dereliction of its duty to protect this country will do the very least it can do to prevent it form happening. Of course, When it happens it will be Bushes fault.

Then there is the threat from the Socialists. Many Dems. in the Congress are openly Socialist and vocal about it. This Administration has flooded the White House with Socialists and Communists.

When I served in the military in the 50s and 60s for part of that time I was prepared to fly to Russia on what at that time was, before the fan-jet engines, a one way flight. The Communists and Socialists were and are our mortal enemy and this administration is full of them. I am sick to death of that mob and hope to see them removed from positions of power. I think they are not above letting these things happen and doing nothing to stop it.

This thread has caused me to reconsider carrying because of comments by Sorral, I too think at some point the Muslims will hit our churches either as a stand alone attack or as part of demonstrations from some of their trumped up charges. As Danwin points out the Muslims will at some point try to intimidate Churches in or near areas they control. Terry reminds us of the significance of Jesus' admonition to arm ourselves. That must me meant for times such as these.

In Georgia, it is Illegal to carry a firearm to any "Public Gathering" and they consider Church services to be a public gathering. My pastor has borrowed and is in possession of one of my 357's so I know he is not anti-gun. When the state gets itself straightened out about individual rights then YES I would carry in church.

Just look at the news if the past couple of years where people have come into Churches and have killed people. We all have the right to protect ourselves and that right doesn't stop at the Church's property line.

I have been carrying for a while now, under the 'don't ask, don't tell' plan. If anyone disagrees with my choice, they may as well be telling me I am not allowed to put my hands up to defend myself if someone tries to strike me. No one can guarantee where I would be safe without my personal firearm, which I am in control of at all times.

I believe weare still at war, no matter what other people think. Don't forget, Sept. 11, 2001 started out as an ordinary day for all of us. It ended early for some. And with the political climate, these days, anyone leaving their home to go anywhere is just asking for trouble. Keep it concealed, if you have to, but be prepared. That's myfeeling on the subject.

Church does not mean that you free from harm by those who feel the need to inflict harm. It was not all that long ago that we had a church shootin here in Knoxville by some one off the street and not afiliated with the church.
