I have both a Cabelas and a Scheels in my area and while I have purchased from both, I have found the whole operation of Scheels to be much better. From my own experience the Scheels personal have a far better attitude toward the customer than does Cabelas. As an example at Cabelas you have to take a number to get waited on and at Scheels you are almost pestered with someone offering to help. Cabelas is like going to the DMV and we all know what that is like.

I just looked, and the progress is being updated, but no delivery date at all, so I guess I’ll just have to watch it every day, and see when it says out for delivery. I had a package disappear once. The place I bought it from replaced it, but that was USPS.

I will give Cabela’s another chance, mostly cause their customer service is so good. They have some shooting glasses I want. I just couldn’t afford to put them on this order.

Well, after Cabela’s was so good with their handling of the open container of Hoppe’s 9, I decided to order the shooting glasses I couldn’t afford when I placed my original order. Now, everything I want to order from them is on backorder. Guess I’m going to try elsewhere.

The replacement bottle of Hoppe’s 9 was delivered today, but the UPS driver wanted to know what was in the package. He wasn’t familiar with the smell. The entire package was soaked in Hoppe’s 9, so it is on it’s way back to Cabela’s. That’s two for two on the Hoppe’s 9.

Guess I’ll try ordering direct from Hoppe’s, or maybe the LGS will blow me away, and get some in stock. Fat chance.

That's disappointing, it must be Hoppe's packaging that is not good quality.

I kind of suspect Hoppe’s packaging, but who knows for sure. That this happened twice raises questions. Here is the reply I got from Cabela’s today when I emailed them about todays delivery.

I apologize that you receive yet another defective bottle of the Hoppes 9. If you would like to receive a refund for the amount of the purchase I would be glad to take care of that for you. I will make sure that the information is given to the correct department so that in the future this will not happen again. I apologize for any inconvenience this continued issue has caused you.

Sincerely,
Amanda

Over years as a cabella customer. Have had a few issues. However they have excellent customer service. They answer on the 1st ring have great agents. Always work out reasonable resolutions.
Using the coupons and offers you cannot beat Cabellas!

Been about two months since this thread has been active. I don’t see where I mentioned that I did have a successful order with Cabelas just after my last post in this thread. Some shooting glasses and some 9mm snap caps. All my bad experiences with Cabelas were with liquids. Hoppes 9 that always leaked, and ammo that never came off back order for months when I could get it easily at several other places. Their customer service is as good as it gets. They get a 10 from me on customer service. My problems with them may not have been their fault, and I don’t think they were at fault.

I used Brownells for some Ballistol and Break Free. Couldn’t find it anywhere else.

I was not home when the package was delivered, but the first thing I noticed was a wet spot on the shipping box. One sniff confirmed my suspicions. It was Hoppe’s 9. Inside the shipping box was a mess, but nothing but the Hoppe’s 9 and it’s immediate packaging was damaged. I sent them an email with the photos. They were very easy to deal with on canceling the ammo order. I wonder if they will for this also. I requested a replacement bottle of Hoppe’s 9.
Why not just buy hoppe's from your local gun store or wally world, it'd surely be cheaper. Thats what I do anyway. Cabelas is expensive and even for a mail order place takes FOREVER.

Because I’m in a small town with one LGS that had been out of Hoppes 9 for weeks with no delivery time in sight, and there is no Wallyworld or anything like that within hours of here. I don’t know why everyone on the forums assume everyone has access to a Wall Mart. I could probably count the number of times I’ve been in a Wall Mart on the fingers of one hand. I had not one drop of Hoppes 9 left, and I had guns to clean.

Cabelas customer service is top notch, and I find them good to deal with. Sometimes the extra cost just to be able to order what I need when I need it is a big seller to me.

Don't get me wrong, they do have good stuff and excellent service, but for ammo and solvents they don't do so hot. And sorry about the Wal-mart thing, I've live all over and have never been more than 70 miles from one. Its nice to hear they haven't completely taken over.

I’ll agree on the ammo and solvents. Cabelas isn’t a good place for those things, but for everything else, I like them.

When 380 ammo was nearly impossible to get Cabela's was one of the few internet sites that didn't jack the price out of sight. All the stores had it backordered but they kept you informed as to the status of the order. Still the best place for reliable ammo IMHO.

I've had a scope on backorder at, Cabela's, for a month now. They were supposed to get them in on, Feb. 3rd. then they told me, Mar 1st. Now there saying they have no idea when it will be in. The scope is the new, Redfield Revolution. I'm about ready to cancel the order.

Common problem with resellers. If you calll them on it they will give you options...
Cabellas has great agents and cust service if you communicate with them.

In Winnipeg, Canada, where I am and here they established the first Cabela's store in Canada by buying out the SIR outlet. The service and ammo-gun stock has been atrocious to say the least. Back orders galore on ammo, reloading supplies etc. even a walk-in is disappointing. Most of the store is clothing and shoes. The "other" shooting outlet is thriving....whats the problem with Cabela's?????

I'm in Cabela's about once a month and have been very happy. As with everyone else they do empty the ammo shelves pretty quickly. The Dundee MI store is pretty awsome. A new Bass Pro shop opened here in NW Ohio so I have two great stores to go to. Cabela's will pro-rate hunting clothes, with receipt, to up-grade to newer stuff. How many stores will do that!

As long as this thread keeps coming back to life from time to time, here it is again. I just received an order from Cabelas, and decided to try ordering some ammo from them again, since PMC .223 was only $6.49 per box of 20, and it didn’t hold up the rest if the order at all. The ammo wasn’t packed all that well, so I had a lot of loose shells to pick up and put back in the box it should have been. Looks like the person who packed it had never packed ammo before.

Saw a documentary of Super Stores on the Travel Channel the other day, and Cabelas was one of the stores they covered. I’ve only been into the Cabelas at Reno once last year, and I had no idea what I was in for when I went in there. I am not a “shop till you drop” person. I’m more like “dropping at the thought of shopping” type of a person, so I was more in a hurry to get out of there since they didn’t have what I was looking for, (a certain type of jacket) and since I was with someone I wasn’t sure about looking at guns with, I didn’t spend the time in the gun section I would have liked to. After watching that documentary on TV the other day, I’m thinking it would be nice to visit a Cabelas again if I ever get back to Reno again, which is 9 hours with no stops from here. A bit much, just to go to a store.
