First off, hello everyone. Glad I finally found some .22 rim enthusiasts!
Thought I could share a long term goal of mine, a decent lower cost shooter. Lots of ways to go, but ended up choosing a Marlin 925. Wanted a bolt action, was kinda interested in the micro-groove barrel and what it's capable of. Of course, a few upgrades had to be done; -Rifle Basix Trigger -J&P Custom Striker Spring -Weaver 5 MOA Scope Base & Grand Slam Rings -BSA 6x24 Optics -Limbsaver Tuner/Vibe Dampener -Rock Steady Bi-Pod All I really did besides installing the goodies was sanding and refinishing it to my liking, and free-floating the barrel up to about 1 inch away from the barrel/stock wedge mount. After all was said & done, here some pictures of what I ended up with. The Marlin posing pretty ![]() The scope looking ... Rather large ![]() Did some rough sighting/tuning in, and popped off some 100 yd test groups - The rifle likes Wolf (tested about 15 different types of ammo) ![]() Final test groups, still at 100 yds ![]() Was a fairly windy, luckily the dude next to me at the range had some fancy wind meters and tassels set, so I snorked his windage info. Was really shocked to see how well the rig was shooting, lots better than I had expected! Almost all groups ended up under one inch with nervous twitches included (I'm definitely no marksman, still practicing a lot). I managed to stay under the $500 mark, but not by much. All in all I'm a pretty happy fella, and really impressed by that Marlin! Off to practice more, 50 yds should be more fun as opposed to the 100 yd nervous session. Nice to meet everyone here, hopefully not too much spam for a first post. ~Swizzel

![]() Welcome to TFF and NICE JOB !!! I think you'll be very happy with your project, Marlin does a great job in the accuracy dept with the microgrooves and the BSA is a good bang for the buck at 50-100yrds. Looking forward to more posts and range reports ! Semper Fi, Woolley - heading out the door in a few minutes to take the kids to the range to do some plinking!

That's cool. I set up my own 'sub $500' shooter last year. A Savage MKII BTVSS for $330 and a Centerpoint 4-16x scope from WalMart for about $70. Didn't swap out any parts. It shoots similarly.
