Nice guns Dragonfly. How did that Mossberg shoot?

Howdy,

I was recently given this old 1934 Mossberg Model 34 .22 cal. single-shot bolt-action rifle. Looks to be all original and fairly good condition. Seems to shoot fairly consistent as well, though I have not sighted it in yet.
After taking the bolt apart to clean out that old "gummy" grease, I found the firing pin has cracks.
So now I am in search of a new (used) firing pin and/or striker assembly and/or a complete bolt assembly. I have learned that the bolt is interchangeable with the Mossberg 30, which is also the Wards Western Field models 35A & 37.
It still fires rounds, but I want to be prepared for the inevitable. I'm not sure if I want to refinish the rifle... I kinda like the rustic and well used look of it.
Any help with a striker/ firing pin/ bolt would be greatly appreciated.

I've tried numrich, Havlin, and Hoosier Gun Works..... no luck.

i just refinished a savage 63 and mossberg 151mb...i did a good job; they look sensational and are fun to shoot...everyone who sees them wants to shoot it, especially the little savage single shot bolt...

never had any interest in the modern tacticool rimfires (or even the 10/22; just no personality)...if i pick up another rimfire it will be another older wood stock rifle that i can refinish and bring back to life...

This was a mess when I got it the end of the bbl was bulged so I shortened it and recrowned the bbl and redid the stock. It is a Remington 511-P

FEBIGER ARMS CO., MODEL #2, of New Orleans, LA, 22rf, pump-only, unmarked except for caliber, seial number is just under 7000, ca1909-1911.



Last offered by Baker Guns and Forging Co. of Batavia, NY as their BATAVIA AUTOMATIC RIFLE, in their No. 4 1911 Catalog. Baker was financial backer and when Febiger failed in repayment they reclaimed all machinery and parts inventory. Sales of all 3 models ended after Savage Arms Co. threatened patent infringement suit. ALL models are difficult to find.

This old guy (probably 100 years old now) has beautiful graining in its walnut stock and great looking diamond checkering. No cracks, dents, scratches on any wood or metal. Overall would grade NRA VG. Mechanically perfect but bore needs a good scrubbing.



Got a bunch of old oddball .22s, mainly single-shots, but this is one of my favorite exceptions.

Hello, Im new to the forum here and i do have some questions about a 1906 Savage pump action 22 i have. its not complete and i am either wanting to get the parts to fix it or just sell it as a parts gun. any ideas? it still has the pump forearm and barrel but is missing the rear stock and some of the internals to it. Ive been lookin online and it seems like it would cost more to fix it up than what you could buy one for. thanks

I still live in Iowa and can attest to the fact the money made detassling seed corn here bought quite a few guns!

Not quite as old as some here, this Remington 513 SP was made in 1946.

As a kid, riding my bicycle to the store, and spending hours inside looking
at the guns. JC Higgins, Ted williams, etc. , many made by Stevens, and
ALL of them right out there for me to touch.

Welcome Nathan,
My personal advice may sound cold, and I hope not.
A large part of this 'gun world' is not the cost, but
what you get as a final toy after you spend all the time
restoring a piece. Frustrating at times, but when it's done,
and everyone is through yelling at you (spouse, etc.) a million
times, not only is the reward great, but you can't wait to start another project !

Fantastic post and a great way to spend your time.
I love the old .22 rifles, but have a hard time finding them. When I do, if I have the $$$, i'll buy them.
They are great to fix up and everone preserves a piece of American gun making history.

Just finished an old Winchester single shot 22, love them. Looking for an 1890 pump Win that I can afford. When I had my gunsmithing shop, I had a guy bring in an 1890 that was a train wreck. I carefuly put the stock back togather, draw filed and polish all the pits out, a wheel never touched it, all handwork. When he got it back, he started crying, it was his grandfathers and he though it looked better than a new one. I put a lot of hours in it. Didn't charge him what the work was really worth, but it was worth it to me to bring the little gun back to a beautiful shooter. I rust blued it, didn't want to return it, it was one of those few guns that I put so much work into to make it as perfect as possible, it felt like mine.
Only wish I still had the before and after pics, they got lost in several moves.

Keep up your great work and keep working with the kids, best thing a person can do.

Try Jack First, Inc.
They don't have a web site, but a web search will get you their phone number. They mostly sell to gunsmiths, but will also sell to the public.
The gal on the phone has more knowladge about gun parts than anyone I know, old fashion service. Great people to deal with.
