Does anyone know the purpose of the screw on the left rear on top of the receiver of the 550-1 and should it protrude?

The only thing I can think of that you may be inquiring about is the screw that is intended to secure the case deflector to the receiver. Your rifle may be missing its case deflector (sheet metal and about 2 inches long).
