IMHO,the A3 in .308 would be a best choice.
How long will you be out there? If I have to feed myself, as well as protect myself, I would want a gun that could reach out and touch a target, as well have the fire power for CQB. I think of it this way, why would I grab a hand gun if I knew I was going to a gun fight? A shot gun would be a better choice, and a rifle, a better choice still. Just my opinion.

I would want one of my M14s for power and long range and a .45 on the side.
