Default Hopkins & Allen Ranger No. 2 Rough DOB?

Greetings,

I have a very nice .32 RF Hopkins & Allen Ranger No. 2 that I purchased a few months ago. The gun is nickle plated and fitted with black grips. The only patent date is March 28, 1871, with a serial/assembly number of 297X. Any ideas on its DOB?

Thanks!

Hopkins & Allen was in business from 1868 to 1914 .

That model was made from 1879 to 1900, and the serial number makes me think closer to the first number.
