I've honestly never heard of soaking a gunstock in used motor oil....

Wards Westernfield arms were made by several frontline manufacturers. Your
.22LR was most likely made by Mossberg. Your old .22 has limited collector value but they tend to be just like their fronline bretheren and be excellent arms. Why do you want to engrave westernfield along the barrel? These are usually great shooters but bubba-ing the stock will decrease the value of the gun.

I too can't figure out why you would want to engrave the brand name in the stock. Most likely the gun was made by Mossberg. While not holding great value, these guns have gained much interest in the past few years. And depending on the model, it could be one that is quite uncommon. Doing what you want will only destroy any current value that it has or may have down the line. But whatever!

soaking the stock in used motor oil...really?...REALLY?

you want it black the right way, start collecting some aluminum cans and plastic bottles for easy cash and buy a small can of ebony stain...

you've come to your senses...you're staining it...smart.

The Makers for a Ward's Western Field is actually pretty varied.
Read the Cross-Reference to find out exactly which one yours is.
