Default Let's make a deal

This just in from Eric Odom. So far unconfirmed by any other source.

Quote:
House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) has, as Right Turn predicted, a deal, and not just any deal. According to reports, the outlines of a deal include $39 billion in spending cuts and withdrawal of the Planned Parenthood rider. In the end, as Boehner said, it was about money. He got Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) to buy the rider, one his caucus was willing to give up, for another billion dollars. The enormousness of the win for Boehner shouldn’t be underestimated, if the deal holds. He didn’t divide his caucus; he kept it together. He didn’t take “no” for an answer ( as in “Not a penny in cuts”); through the course of the year he got a total of $49 billion in cuts. So how’d he do it?

Hey Pops, if that's how it went down, and that's how I heard it as well, he didn't do to bad for starters. Now them boy's and girl's can get down to real business! Government at all levels is spending too much money on things the government isn't even responsible for. They need to learn how to manage the money we all give them and stop finding new ways to spend it! Hopefully we will see some "defunding" of unneeded programs and staff pretty soon.

Boehner saved a total of $49 billion?

I guess that means the 2011 federal deficit went all the way down from 1.65 trillion to 1.60 trillion.

ofitg is right. It's not EVEN a drop in the bucket. It's nothing but smoke and mirrors from a bunch of professional sleazeballs on both sides. They wear red or blue, but it's an illusion. Every last one of them is fighting to maintain a system that is destroying this country. All 545 of them are going to ride this golden calf to maintain their wealth and power at the expense of 310 million of us. And they are going to ride it until it dies.

Charley Waite: You could do something about it.
Mack: What? We're freighters. Ralph here's a shopkeeper.
Charley Waite: You're men, ain't you?
Mack: I didn't raise my boys just to see 'em killed.
Charley Waite: Well you may not know this, but there's things that gnaw at a man worse than dying.

Not only did he cave, he caved over very little money. We are as screwed now as we were then. You should still expect a government shutdown. Possibly as early as this week.

I think there are a few good people in Congress - mostly the GOP freshmen we elected last year - but it's clear that there aren't enough of them to do what needs to be done.

Our next big opportunity to clean house comes 19 months from now. With millions still out of work, and basic living expenses skyrocketing, there will be a lot of angry voters in November 2012.

ofitg, that's why the next election is so very important as well. We need to finish the job we started and dump as many more of these self serving fat cats as we can!

They shaved $38.5 billion off of Odumdum's proposed budget. In the week leading up to this deal they spent $50 billion. You can't borrow money to pay the interest on money that's already been borrowed and spent. It simply does not work. Same principal with printing money, or "quantitative easing," or whatever name you want to attach to it...

Before you get your panties in a knot...just in case any of you were thinking politicians might have just - even accidentally - done something right for a change, or (gulp) told the truth about it, today the Congressional Budget Office released a report that said the fiscal spending bill about to be voted on will only result in an actual $352 million reduction in federal spending below 2010 levels. About a hundredth of what both sides are claiming. I mean, I'm not surprised, but...lying sons a no good double-dealin two-faced crooks!
