Good for Wyoming. I haven't seen an LEO in years. Last one I did see 4-5 years back on the road outta here was over 100 miles South and I stopped and chatted to him for about 10 minutes. He had one the our Indians in the back seat, ha. Dummy got drunk and was dragging his White girlfriend around by the hair in his yard. The village had a White construction crew in building a new village hall and one of the workers was going past; he stopped and pounded the crap outta John Paul, ha ha. Told him he shouldn't be beating on women, ha. Anyway, I yelled at John Paul if he learnt his lesson and he wouldn't even look up at me. State trooper rolled his eyes, true story.
Ya know, our state police that are stationed 200 miles south are a pretty good bunch. I know for a fact they don't enforce many fed regulations & laws. Reason is over the years, our last few Repub Governors, Murkowski & Palin & Parnell all have added more regs not to be enforced; told troopers to follow state law over fed law. Semantics aside, I don't feel threatened at all by our state police, know most of them and they are good guys actually; whatever the law in D.C. states. We came from back East, western Pennsylvania. In comparison, to what it was like there 20 years ago and here in Alaska today; Pa was a totalitarian police state under constant martial law. My friends tell me that I wouldn't recognize the place today, so it's hard for me to comprehend fear of LEO's in Ak. Here in Alaska, you'll never see LEO's stationed in small communities or 200-300 people. They can't seem to keep them near Indian Villages either. Nobody out in rural areas want any form of govt growth, even if they were handing out 1000 dollar bills for the votes, ha. I doubt I'll ever move to Fairbanks, so I don't get too excited about laws and such things, no offense. Just how it is here and I'm glad. |

Well looks like Alaska, Arizona, Tennessee & Wyoming are at the top of the list. I like the idea of having a choice of canceled or open carry. I like the idea of having some control over CCW permits (shall Issue), where I would need to take a CCW course. And I really like the fact the other states would honor my states CCW permit in their state. I could travel to other states on vacation or business and not worry about the hassle. Any further thoughts on the matter?

Zuruh your state law in Alaska is very clear. An Alaska CCL citizen must be disarmed during any stop you must inform the LEO. This is not a federal law but Alaska state law We studied your law when writing our new permitless carry rules. When writing our state law we did not feel that a Wyoming citizen should have to give up their right of illegal search and seziure in order to protect their 2nd amendment rights. Its about being a free citizen.

Well you know more about Alaska law than me, ha; not that I'm too concerned whatever the law states. I've never had a trooper ask me anything about guns and when we are running down the road, I always have a pistol on the dash and usually an AR on the seat. Never been asked when they see me or when we stop and chat. Course, most everybody stops and chats on the road outta here; I've done the entire 200 miles and never seen another vehicle quite a few times.
Ya know up here, people just don't obey laws they don't see as being constitutional & fair. Since we don't have any law enforcement for 200 miles, we retain all kinds of freedom that most people can't even begin to envision. Actually, our state troopers keep pretty busy trying to get the Indians to stay in line. Now those guys don't even think they are members of any National Govt, ha; probably the same in Wyoming on reservations. Us Whites could learn a little from them backward Indians you know, ha. Whenever I have a pistol on me, it's never concealed anyway. I just have a gun for bear anyway. I wouldn't live anywheres that I had to hide a gun to possibly shoot at people, so I guess on the belt is fine by me. You guys got your butts covered in Wyoming, good deal. But I'm still happy enough right here in rural Ak |

I left Indiana in '95', and at that time, it was shall issue and if you already had a permit to carry, you could walk in, buy a handgun and walk out with it as fast as they could fill out the paperwork and take your money. Waiting for a background check when you already have a permit is just stupid.
Other than the hassle of the original application, it's fairly friendly.

Now that is a very fair question. Should a person who holds a valid CCW license be required to wait the 10 days when purchasing a handgun in his own state? In California I do not think even the police can walk in an purchase a handgun without waiting, I may be wrong of course?
I have heard that there is no waiting period in some state though?

In Kentucky there is no waiting period, you give them your money and get your gun after you fill out the 4473 form and they call in your info and get a NICS approval. You leave with your gun within a few minutes of the purchase under normal circumstances. If you have a CCDW, you need only give that to the dealer with the form and there is no NICS background check necessary.

Kentucky and Tenn. are exceptions to most of the other eastern states. They do not have handgun registrations.

States with high gun ownership tend to have more freedoms. We would expect this to be the case. Good luckRC |

At least most of you can get a CCW permit. Here in California it's impossible, unless you know a judge or Sherrif personally. And as I said before I prefer open carry, but I guess with a CCW in most states I can make the choice myself.

Arizona dropped the requirement for a CCW permit to carry concealed, but myself and a number of people I know will maintain ours for the reciprocity. As for the rest, Arizona qualifies according to the law, but the effects depend on where you're standing at the time. Unfortunately the Tucson area is less conservative over all than the Phoenix area and the rural parts of the state and you can run into some issues with open carry. And we won't even talk about the tie-dyed, crystal-wearing, mystical morons in the Sedona "vortex" area.

Becareful, A deputy south of Parker, Az. gave me some problems. I have a Utah CCL good in Az. The Arizona law on keeping a pistol in a holster not using the door map pocket to store the weapon. You must have at least 2" of the gun exposed etc. Try explaning your rights to a 22 year old Wyatt Earp wanna be who is working by the hour.

totally agree stitch. I exercise the same when pulled over by county around here. Its just a common courtesy IMO.
I know most by name and they all know I carry. in fact they have jokingly stated that if they were ever in a shoot out with some baddies and they see my vehicle they were gonna come and commandere my weapons to fend off the bad guys and serve justice ![]()

Haha, must be nice. I was drivin from Houston, Tx to Camp Pendleton, Ca so I was a bit ways away from home, but since I was gonna be cruisin the US/Mex border about the same time the whole ordeal about mexican assassins and what not. So it kinda helped me justify shellin out for a Kimber Desert Warrior II, had 3 spare mags loaded with 230g HP loaded and ready to go. Concealing wasn't fun as the last inch of the slide kept wanting to poke out from under sweatshirt.
