A friend brings along his Marlin 795 alot when we shoot.I like how it feeds the first round by depressing the lever with your right thumb. The magazines are strong and built to last as well.Accurate little 22 rifle with just iron sites.

Shooting is fun but reloading the magazines is a bummer.

They're terrific little rifles, alright, good for a day hike and/or survival. Not much heavier than a good pellet gun.

I just ran across this thread and it couldn't have come at a better time. I've got a 795 on it's way to me (& yes, with this year's rebate, it cost me $101 - shipping has gone up)

I did however, order some extra clips and they already came in. So last night I was loading up the extra magazines and it didn't take me long to start thinking there's got to be a better way. And now I've found it, thanks Junker for the idea. I'll definately be slapping me something together to accomplish this.

Glad to hear it, thanks! The more I shoot my 795, the more I love it.

And then just wondering if maybe a flat surface on the bottom could be better with a rat tail file notch to make the pin groove?
Just thinkin out loud here.

BTW, I've been thinking I need to make one of these for my 7rd mags ever since you first posted it but I may never get around to it, so I'd probably be one of your first customers.
Though it may be simple, especialy for 'do it yourselfers' like us, the market for something like this is often determined by cost vs. hastle!

Thumbs up Re: Marlin 795 mag loader

Easiest "wood working" project I ever did - took all of 15 or 20 minutes. All ideas gleaned from these Forums (especially Juker for kicking it off). Couple of comments: Photo #1 - thanks to wife for 'donating' a flat Bobbi Pin (complete with fake diamond); Photo #3 - under Spring compression - it will shoot out if your grip slips; Photo #6 - loading rounds without a little back pressure from the magazine spring does take a little getting used to. Here's the technique that seems to work best (at least for me). I hold the clip so that it's mostly on it's side and the front of the magazine is a little bit higher. Then I drop in the rounds and they kinda roll (on their sides) down the length of the magazine. With a little practice, you won't get {many} rounds standing upright.

Thanks again to Juker for saving the tips of my fingers and thumb!

Not sure what you mean about binding, fuze; it's only a couple of inches of depression - are you asking if the follower binds? I haven't encountered that problem, just give it a swift push and stick the nail/pin in the hole, only takes a couple of seconds ~

Yeah, it was quick enough to make. Took me more time to find a scrap piece of wood that was the proper thickness than it did to make the thing. Anyway, now I can load those magazines up without killing my fingers. Getting that last (10th) round in, is still a pain. But like someone else said, maybe calling it good at nine rounds is 'good e'nuff'.

I was actually just remembering back one time I pressed one in with a screwdriver just feel spring strength and the screwdriver was just a little off center and it caused the plastic piece to lean and bind up, it was just a thought.

While my computer was down this week from a power out/surge I found this leftover piece of plexiglass used for a pc case window in a box of computer parts. Right away I thought of you know what, so I finaly did it. I use the 7 round mags for my old model 70 but I made it long enough to work on 10 round mags too, incase I ever pick up a 795.

Thanks juker for sharing this!
PS: I drilled a small hole under the peep hole in the mags so they could be filled all the way.

I'd have to say that's the main reason it's important to make it out of something that's the proper thickness. The little piece of wood I used is just thin enough to clear the top entrance slot and yet wide enough to keep what you describe from happening.

Just ordered five more magazines today... those things ain't easy to find at a decent price. With shipping, paid $13.73 each; that's up from $11.81 (incl shipping) that I paid last time for four of 'em.

After kind of getting burned on a .380 Sterling (when they went out of business) and not being able to find any more magazines - I've got one that works but I'd like to find a few more - like someone once said, if you don't have magazines that function properly in your autoloader, then all you've got is a single shot firearm. Ever since then, I've made sure I order a few extras since I tend to keep my guns forever (I want to make darn sure, I can continue to shoot them well into the future).

I have three mags for mine, and after a couple of trips to the range and several reloads I knew there had to be a better way, so I spent some time today coming up with this solution - necessity being the mother of invention, especially since there are no speedloaders on the market for this rifle. I'll call this the Jukermatic Speed Plunger.

(PHOTO 1) After a few tests to determine the size, I took some 1/16" thick sheet plastic and shaped it to fit the mag. It's a shade under 1" wide by 3" long, with one end trimmed to meet the angle of the follower. Note the large notch cut into the lower left corner.

(PHOTO 2) JSP inserted.

(PHOTO 3) Next, insert a large finishing nail through the holes in the mag, and remove the JSP. The notch in the JSP allows the nail to pass through the mag, above the follower. That's the only small trick to making this - the JSP has to be long enough to fully depress the spring and follower, and the notch has to be cut high enough to allow the nail to pass through.

(PHOTO 4) Load the mag. Only the first round can be fussy, because it might hang up on the nail and require a quick jiggle. I did this 22 times (seemed like a good number) and the first round got stood up by the nail four of those times. Eight more rounds follow, quick as you can. Because of the position of the holes on the Marlin mag, meaning where the nail can be inserted, the 10th round has to be loaded after the nail is removed. This is actually a benefit - pulling out the nail slams the spring and follower into the nine rounds, and when the 10th round is loaded it resets the mag. So drop in nine rounds, yank out the nail, press in the 10th round, and you're ready to roll.

I'll probably just wrap a rubber band around the JSP to keep the nail handy. After 22 test runs, I was pleasantly surprised at how fast I can now load the 795 mags.
Awsome I am going to make a jukermatic when I get home for my sons gun, thank for the tip,Where do I send the check?

Yeah that 10th round is a $*%^* to install and all these methods get you only nine.

I made my set using your choice of either two, three or four flat wooden chopsticks, the free ones that come in paper envelopes. The dimensions are ideal for this purpose and with a tight rubber band you can offset them to get that notch. No cutting, drilling, nothing. But of course you cant get the 10th round in but at least you can go back to eating after loading mags.

I also have a huge idle sheet of 1/16th plywood and was able to easily cut out the right size. I also tried slightly planing a wooden ruler and that works too. A paint-stirring stick is similar.

But doing this only made me dislike the gun. Does anyone at Remington actually own a 795? Why should anyone forage for chopsticks or paint sticks to make their gun work? It makes no sense. Maybe at the next train stop i sell the 795 and keep the 60.

My friend bought a 795 last week actually, his first gun. I tried talking him into a 10/22, but he didn't like the price tag of $240, when the 795 was next to it for $160. We're taking it out saturday.

He will love it just as much as he would have loved the 10/22. Can't go wrong with either. Let us know how it goes.

He'll love the 795 more when it easily outshoots stock 1022's and many modded ones

Here's mine. This is the handle from a bathroom sink drain stopper/plunger (not sure what you call it). Trimmed with a hacksaw to about 3.5 inches. The built in thumb depressor works great.
