I have one of these rifles listed in the title of this thread that I took apart about 15 years ago or so. The problem of why the gun wouldn't fire was obvious; the firing pin was broke. I never got it replaced nor reassembled the rifle. Fast Forward to now and thankfully all parts are accounted for (I hope anyway). I have found a fairly detailed diagram and parts list for it but it does not go into enough detail, especially the specifics of where and how everything fits in together. I'm going to order a new firing pin but want to be certain I actually do have all of the other necessary parts at hand. I kept the parts in a tackle box I keep my bore brushes and related materials in but of coarse some may have fallen out or others my have found their way in. In the picture below are three pins, the ejector sear and spring and the breech-bolt, still containing the broken firing pin, that I'm positive are correct for the gun. The other two items, a small spring that I assume must be the firing pin spring and a small hollow pin that has a length wise gap. My main questions are; assuming the spring is correct does it actually simply set in the small space in the breech-bolt underneath the front portion of the firing pin and does this small pin belong somewhere on the gun? There is a small notch in the front of the main part of the firing pin but is this the only thing that holds the spring in place other then the side of the frame? Seems like it will be tricky getting it placed in there and keeping it in place while installing the breech-bolt. Is there anyone here that is very familiar with these rifles?

The recess is for the FP return spring but the one we see looks more like the ejector sp rather than for the FP. The pin with the slot is a roll pin and I don't recall it being part of the bolt system; it looks more like the pin for the eject but I will have to ck on that to be sure. The FP spring should be slightly longer than the slot and stay put when installed and be of finer threads. Be sure your pin moves in the channel cleanly with no drag; it is a stamped part and subject to require fitting. The Ithica 49, the Savage and Agawan are all the same type but most parts will not interchange.

Thanks for the input, gunplumber. As seen in the picture below the spring does fit in the space in the bolt. It just seems that it's precariously seated. I would have thought that it would clip onto something. Then again this wasn't exactly a high end gun. Is it possible that is the way it is supposed to be? The ejector is currently in place in the rifle and does push back out when depressed. Is there a secondary spring for it as well?

There is the one sp for the ejct so it appears you have the right one. It looks better now that it's in the bolt. It will stay put in the gun with no worries as the side of the rec will restrict it from moving out of place.
