Hey all! I won a new rifle in a raffle a couple weeks ago. A Savage Axis in .308 with a Bushnell 3-9x32 scope. Not a bad rifle overall, especially for a $20 ticket on a 1 in 25 chance. I'm a little dissapointed in the trigger pull though. Quite a bit of take up and overtravel without any way for adjustment (unlike the Savage 110 I have). Does anyone know if there is a different trigger setup available for this rifle that would allow me to set it up a little better?

I think a trigger fix on that rifle would probably be cost prohibitive. I would suggest trading it for a better platform at your next gun show.

Thanks for the links Jack. I searched the internet and Rifle Basix didn't come up. Looks like it would be an easy install. I don't mind spending a few bucks on it when I won it in the first place.

I did a quick check on Midway's site. They have the rifle basix trigger for other Savage models, but not for the Edge/Axis yet. Goes for 94.99 on the others, so I would expect about the same when it becomes available. Good Luck.

Would you say the Axis is a good rifle for a 20 year old looking to step up from rimfires? Also, which caliber would be most suitable for just fun at the range, cost-wise?

That's the ideal buyer for this rifle. Savage should market it as an entry-level youth rifle. I think it would work best in the smaller calibers, which would also be most affordable on the range, .223 or something along those lines.

Just an update. Picked up a new trigger from Rifle Basix (thanks again Jack). It made a tremendous difference. Nice and crisp now.
Just a note. The savage website lists all calibers for this rifle at the same price.
