i have a good friend that has a high standard 12 gauge semi auto.it it legally possible to cut down barrel,if so what is the max length. old semperfi

At least 1/4'' to 1/2'' over is a good guide.

yep add some just in case you have to re crown. Hi Standard SG's were great guns. Lock up like no other.

My .02 would be to have the barrel at 18 1/2 to 19 inches and have the barrel threaded for choke tubes. A decent gunsmith could do the work fairly cheaply and you end up with a shotgun that will be much more useful than the cylinder bore that a cut barrel would give you.

Overall length must be 26"

Measure barrel using a dowel inside the barrel to a closed bolt parallel to the bore.
