Smith&Wesson M-28 in 45LC? - The Firearms Forum

Found the above mentioned revolver today. Being a 45colt fan, i brought it home with me....It says .45cal Model 1955 on the right side of the barrel, but on the frame is says M28-2. I thought M28s were only in .357? Fjestads only has .357s listed as M28.

IF anyone has any info or sources for me to check, please advise.

Someone has fitted the .45 barrel to a Model 28 frame. Since they are both N-frame, that is not a problem. Remains to be seen if they fitted a factory cylinder or rebored the .357 cylinder - that could be a problem if not done correctly.

Again, NOT factory original. All Model 28's (S&W Highway Patrolman) were .357 Magnum.

The cylinder appears to be factory .45lc, the chambers are counter-sunk, (rebated?). Its been nickel plated, and some of its flaked off around the cylinder, since its not a factory original, I wont worry about it losing value if i have it re-finished.

On some folks, that's a pure waste of ingenuity.
