I'm super paranoid if you are. I have a shotgun single shot in my room at all times. I keep it with a sleeve on the butt with a slug,00 Buck, and 3 game loads. And If someone ever breaks in the back door before I could get to my room Just ten feet from me is my parents room with a safe with enough weapons I could hold off an invading army from in there.

I aient paranoid...I got a .357 or 40SW in my pocket until I get into my shorts to watch late evening TV...then I got a M92 and a hand held Surefire on the table next to my chair...When I head for bed, I put up the M92, cuz I got a Mossburg 930 right next to my XD45 with a Streamlight attached within easy reach ..and then there is always my M4 in the corner behind the door.....So what do I need to be paranoid about??

Being prepared is better than being a victim.

I keep my Remington 870(plug removed) leanin on the nightstand, with a Ruger P89 in the drawer. I keep a Taurus Millennium in .45 ACP at the side table next to my couch and in a flip up lid on an old tool chest across the room, I keep a Parker-Hale 30-06, and an Astra 12 ga. SxS. There are tactical lights, and/or CT lasers on almost all of these. Plus flashlights, some with dis-orienting strobe cabability, in every room of my house. These are all pretty much dedicated to self-defense, but I still recreationally shoot all of them.

During my waking hours, there is almost always a 9mm or 40 S&W either on or right next to me, along with others in strategic locations as well as a shotgun or 2... I'm not paranoid, as most of them are locked up, but I keep the keys close at hand, better to be prepared and most likely alive than unprepared and most certainly dead.

I don't really bother with keeping more than a shotgun loaded around the house, have two American Stafforshire Terriers that seem to know who's supposed to be there and who's not.Great with the local kids, but boyhowdy;the way their parents look when they see the kids "manhandling" the dogs!

I'm way out in the country on 7 acres, 25-30 miles to anywhere. We don't have any crime out this way, but the oldest girl next door (in jail at the moment), likes the darker side of life. When I say next door I mean 150-200 yds. I'm always out around the property for some reason, or another, and have stumbled on folks on my property that were not supposed to be there. If I'm doing nothing more than cutting the grass, I'm armed, all the time!

same here. I keep several loaded and unchambered in the cabinets, mainly so the wife or myself can grab one in a pinch and know its loaded. The mini14 stays stoked with a full 20 rounder. I keep all the revolvers loaded because you can easily see the brass rims shining out the cylinder, a marlin 60 for strays, the 870 stays stoked with buckshot, etc. etc. etc. I like to know the seconds it takes to load and chamber have already been sorted. In a defensuve situation those few seconds could determine who dies and who survives..

People are now commuting from the Poconos to NYC. One new neighbor commented to my wife about how quiet and safe it feels to live here. However, she said that knowing many people in the area have guns makes her nervous. My wife told her that the area is safe, quiet and peaceful because all those people have guns, and others know it.

Miles, is this the AK you took to the TX Shoot? A few of us got to test drive it, thanks.

I keep every gun I have loaded. There are several laying out most of the time, though I don't have them strategically placed around the house. I just keep them handy. About two nights each week the dog lets me know that there is "something" outside the house. Almost always a raccoon or opossum, and she usually gets them herself, but those things have become such a nuisance that I don't want one to get away because it got higher up the tree than she can climb (and I've twice seen her climb a tree to get a raccoon).
Because we live at a campground frequented but up to 100 children at a time, the house is always locked. Always. Even when we're both sitting on the front porch and no one else is supposed to be here.

Yep, that old SKS ain't none too accurate but for anything from the fornt porch to the road, it'll get the job done! You can't see whats on the top of the book case to well, but there is another 30rd mag there for it, along with a couple of pistols, ammo for both, flashlight, binoculars, and the two red cups are for some .38 DEWC, and spent brass. I really do shoot off my front porch, and the road is "IN RANGE".

I bought one of these for a friend,
http://www.harborfreight.com/general...afe-95814.html looks like a real book. They keep it by the front door. The titles of the books make sure no one will want to pick it up.
