A 3" chamber can fire a 3" slug, yes. Just to satisfy my curiosity, what is the choke on that barrel?
No stupid questions. When it comes to firearms, the stupid choice is to go ahead without asking the question.

If its a fixed choke it most likely modified or full. Niether is ideal for shooting rifled slugs. but the modified would be a better choice.

It should be stamped on the side of the barrel "cyl. bore", "imp. cyl.", or "mod." choke. all smooth bores have some sort of choke from the factory, even cylinder bore is considered a choke size, even though it isnt choked at all.
