bout 1400 bucks if i dont count the rem 700 I got with it. Which is how I prefer to count it, because that means the rem 700 was free! Which is my favorite price!

Looking forward to your 700 job, jla! I'm seriously thinking of doing some work on my 700, .270 if I can just find the time! Ive had this rifle for a while now, and from the day I picked her up, I was thinking "this in the one" to put the works to.

I have fitted a new hogue pillar bedded stock to it. And did the ADL to BDL conversion too. Im prolly gonna order the barrel pretty soon. And I got some custom ground recoil lugs from a member here. Im going to mount one of the .400 thick ones to it and epoxy bed it all to the hogue once the barrel come in. It may end up more solid than my savage build.

It will be barreled with a .243 win, 8 twist. and converted to savage barrel nut for easy and tight headspacing. and while I have it apart ill lap the lugs and true the action up a bit.

Ill probably order another criterion tube, the one on the savage is producing some pretty unbelievable results. No reason to try a different one yet

Im gonna make a thread on it when I get the barrel in.

will do. Im still tinkering with the powder charges. I have done 2 ladder tests that both yielded identical results. SO now im gonna load a few of the most consistent charge weight and see how well it does when everything is the same. Should be an easy sub MOA.

Looks GOOD!

Having a few Rem 700's myself, I can't wait to see how it turns out!

And I like your choice in scope too. I like my Nikons just as well as my Leopolds and think nothing of going for a 400 yard shot on prairie dogs with mine.

I was sold on the Nikon the moment I picked it up. The savage build wasnt intended to be a heavy bench gun. Thats the reason for the Varmint contour barrel and the retention of the factory stock. Its a long range hunting rig, that I mostly use for casual target shooting.. The Nikon fits the intentions perfectly, prividing Bullet drop compensation and enough magnification to easliy hit 500 yd targets without being a super heavy 35mm affair that requires super expensive rings and bases and costs as much as the build did...

Plus I think Nikon makes the best lenses in the biz. super clear and super bright. This 300 dollar Nikon is a better scope than my FILs 900 dollar Ziess conquest, which for all intents and purposes is the same scope in a pricier box. And the nikon has waaaay better optics

I finally got the load developed after 3 separate rounds of testing.

.308 WIN
HDY MATCH brass
CCI-250 primer
Alliant Power Pro 2000MR - 50.0gr (Please dont use this is your .308, its well over MAX)
Sierra 175 gr MK
2.870 OAL
2985 FPS

I had a variable 15-20 mph wind at my back today, but other than that it was a perfect day for shooting groups.

100 yds...

I took 24 rounds with me and fired 3, 5 round groups. 1, 4 round group to foul and check scope. and the last 5 were thru the chrony for velocity. The brass has been necksized and is tumbling as I type...

I also took some more pics of the rifle

I have put exactly 100 rounds thru the barrel since new, including break in. I have read that some barrels take as much as 200 rounds to settle in to their peak accuracy, if this thing still has some settling to do its going to be boring accurate... I hope what I read is true!
