Correct Target Sizes At Diffrent Ranges - The Firearms Forum

I would like some input from you members here.... what do you guys think appropriate size targets would be for 50, 100, 150, 200, 250, 300, yards? for a .22lr Im thinking 3 different sized targets for each range, so we can do different skill level matches. all targets will be made from steel.

I have some experience with this. I shoot at a range that has steel targets for .22 rifle shooters. They make it easy for beginners and go with the "one inch per 10 yards" rule. One inch of steel for every 10 yards of distance.

25 yards = 2.5" steel plate
50 yards = 5.0" steel plate etc.

These are fairly easy targets for anyone with a scoped .22. You could go 4" at 50 yards, or 3" for the better shooters, and multiples for further distances.

Iv'e looked at some of your u-tube videos they look as if you had some 22 fun.A soft ball size steel target sounds neat to make a ding sound when you hit it at 150 or 200 yards.I made some targets out of old pans and skillets for a thrill and the 22 rounds just punched right through to my surprize.I had great hope in the cast iron one for a nice ding sound but it looked like swiss cheese in the end.

I need to find what works best at 500 yards and see what kind of groups i can get with it, then make the target the size of my groups. then it will be hard to hit. lol

500 yards? That initial target is going to be hard enough to hit. I wouldn't call them so much as groups at that point as much as hope a squirrel didn't sneeze and blow it completely off target.

What's the hold over for a 500 yard shot with a 22lr?

today i hit 500 yard target 9 out of 10 shots, the target is 30 inches

Ok here is some info on my dope, elevation, holdover

50 yards zero is set at TOP mildot

213 yards 9 moa on scope, hold cross hair on target

275 yards 23 moa on scope, hold corss hair on target

425 yards 51.5 moa on scope, hold over 2 mil

500 yards 51.5 moa on scope, hold over 5 mil
so about 29 feet at 500 yards
