H&R .32 Model 733 - The Firearms Forum

I just bought a H&R .32 Model 733 serial AY137871. Its in great shape. Can anyone tell me anything about it? Also value?

What is the best ammo to use for it?

Ronnie,
Your M733 was made in 1982 and is a 2nd Model with the H&R transfer bar/safety system. Model 733 was made - 1st model from 1956 - 1972, 2nd model 1973 - 1986.
The 733 is the Nickel plated analogue of the Model 732. The 732 was made in far larger numbers than the 733. The vast majority of the 733s were made with the 2 1/2" barrel and small, rounded grip frame. A VERY FEW have been seen with 4" barrels and the large, square grip frames (worth a 10% premium.) All models and variants are solid frame with swing-out cylinders and the 4" versions will have a windage adjustable rear sight - otherwise sights are fixed.
Current RETAIL values for the 733 range from $195 - $200 for a 100% NIB example, average condition 80% to 90% finish in the $110 to $150 range.

The 732/733 was made to handle both the .32 S&W and the .32 S&W LONG - it will NOT handle the .32 H&R Magnum round - even if it fits in the cylinder, the Mag round has a much higher chamber pressure and may cause damage to the gun and the shooter. (I've read some postings over the years that stated this model will handle the magnum - it's not designed to do so.)

Ammo has been hard to find around here, I found one gun shop that has s&w longs in stock.

You're welcome. Nice looking piece you have there. There is plenty of .32 S&W LONG ammo listed on line - dozen or more sites selling it. The least expensive I've found is Magtech/Brazil - they also have a 95gr. SJHP round with a bit more velocity, intended for Self Defense - I've shot some, it does have a bit more kick that the usual .32 LONG, but of course, haven't shot any for penetration and upset tests (mushrooming). Check the Internet - it is your friend.
