What a great shot. Aerodynamics 101, an illustration of complete control & situation awareness. Note: a little crosswind correction during the approach.
Watch the wing feathers as he flares to slow down.

from my experience he's collecting dinner , the claws and eyes will show you that , when the land they bring the leg's forward earlier to be a spring , bringing them in later is to drive the talons in better ( pivotal force )

we had a wedge tail eagle as a mascot and i learned a heap from him about avian hunters , respect eh .. and when a eagle is bigger than you real respect ..

been "buzzed" a few times by owls while predator hunting...totally silent and first thing you notice is a very close fly-by when the owl realizes you aient what he thought it was..

...not a good idea to be wearing a coon skin hat at the time.

Excellent video. I walked out of my house one morning to go to work about 415AM and I heard an owl I couldnt see it but when I pulled out of the driveway my headlights lit up the lady across the streets yard and the owl swooped and snatched a rabbit in a mere second. One of the most awesome things I have ever seen. They fly so quietly.

Great video. At first I thought it may have been trained by a Falconer, may have been anyway, but I didn't notice a band on either leg.

Useless info..the ancient Japanese hierarchy males trained birds of prey, and hunted with them to learn the basics of warfare.

And a classic demonstration of high stability wing stall characteristics - root toward tip - as evidenced by the feather behaviors on both wings ! Mom nature seems to always get it right ! >MW

outstanding video ! thanks dons. Last night my rottweiler was kicking up a barking nightmare at our front window. I went to look and just outside was a small owl . when i hit the switch on my flashlight it just looked at me. then off he went. I thought it was great! then i see this posted .Its an owl weekend for me lol.

I have seen one swoop in and pick up a housecat and continue to fly off. The cat only wiggled for a second in the air. It died that quickly from the talons sinking into its' back and neck.

Wearing a coonskin cap at night in the woods, probably not a good idea.
