Ammo sales and shortages - The Firearms Forum

I went browsing for ammo lastnight and found most of the favorite calibers sold out already at most of the sights. I never seen ammo drying up so fast. I think were headed to an ammo shortage. What do you guys/gals think?

My only other thoughts is most are spending there christmas cash or stocking up for 2012 already???? Bb

Seems to happen about every 3 years or so...

Not quite every three years.

I have been doing reloading for 25 years and nothing in the way of shortages matches what we just went through just before and for a couple years after Barack Obama was elected president. Every one stocked up for fear he would kill everything gun related. Then everything was gone and we had huge shortages for months and months. My supplier had me on back order for some reloading components for over six months. If BO gets re-elected this next time he WILL kill everything guns related by Executive Order without the help of Congress.

NO matter who the Republicans put up for president he/she has to be better than BO if you like guns and shooting!!!

Romney will sell us out just as quickly as B.O. He is a progressive nightmare. Hope he doesn't win the republican nomination. Every responsible gun owner out there should NOT vote for Romney in the primary. If you do, you're a sellout too.

The election will be determined by those Independents in the middle.

Dyed in the wool Republican will vote for whomever the Republicans put up. Dyed in the wool democrats will vote for whomever the democrats put up... DUH! .... Obama. The independents probably will not vote for any one too far to the RIGHT. While Ron Paul, Rick Perry, Michelle Bachmann, Rick Santorum, may align with your needs, they may not align with most Independents because all the these Republican candidates MAY BE too far to the right. Newt Gingrich debates a good debate, is very intelligent and comes across as such, but he is a long time politician. Will he revert to that, switch sides, or do what he says he will do(???).

Then there is Mitt Romney. He is the most electable because the Independents can vote for him, unlike most of the other candidates. Will he sell out the conservatives if elected? I don't think so but he has to be better than Obama. We must get Obama out of office or he truly will wreck America to the point it will never recover with all his progressive quasi socialist plans and programs.

I'll get behind whomever wins the Republican primary but I am one of the dyed in the wool conservative right wing republicans (in most views but not all). I'd vote for any Republican to avoid Obama, AGAIN!

Yes, ammo seems to be drying up a bit online and there doesn't appear to be any logical reasoning for that??? I don't see that with reloading supplies though, plenty of everything is available online.

I've been to several Gun Shows over the last few months, and I can tell you for sure, there is no shortage of ammo for sale at the Gun Shows. However, there is a terrible "No Show" of any reloading supplies at the Gun Shows. I have only seen a few containers of powder at one show, and at another, one vendor have several varieties of cast bullets for sale at crazy high prices!

Gun shows near me {Nashville area} have become a rude joke.
Guns,75% quality for $50 less than new, the peripherals [powder,lead,
brass,holsters,stuff......]old and overpriced !
The ammo is mostly old, like they cleaned out old stock from somewhere,
and overpriced, and the reload ammo is sad.......some of the crimp jobs
almost make me puke.
The knife part of the show is equally sad. [Some of the conversations I
hear between vendor/customer makes me angry........taking advantage
of the unknowing buyer]
BUT........we still go, still pay our entrance fee, but not as often.
It doesn't affect us [me and MamaOzo] because I haven't relied on
shelf-bought ammo in over 40 years[except .22lr], the thought of not knowing
what [powder,primer,etc] is above my trigger scares me.......
I hope this doesn't sound uppity........no intention meant, but availability
and quality is why I started reloading to begin with.
I completely understand.....in this economy????? that it is hard to
just run out and set yourself up with a Dillon and say screw the 'shelf stuff',
and I also understand the caution factor if you are not familiar with reloading.....but yesterday would have been a good day to start.

I can't convey the feeling.......having a s**tload of components sitting
on/in your bench, waiting for you to assemble, however you wish, unless
you've been there.

I have always heard about the awesome deals on ammo at gun shows but i never see any at all. It seems to be over priced for over 25years now at gun shows.

Right now i'm upgrading to progressive presses after using two lee pro 1000 presses. Mrs santa brought me the lee master loader for my 308/3006. I also got a lee turret press too. I only charge and seat the bullets in the progressive presses. I clean the primer pocket and prime them before they go into the progressive press. Its still way faster over the one at a time press.

Here in Meridian Idaho there does not seem to be a shortage of ammo. The gun shows are a joke around here as well. Everything is so high priced. The last guy says he got all the ammo for Christmas. He's smart, I'm jealous.
