Will the bbl from a mkIII or 22-45 fit a std model or mark I ?

I think the receiver is attached to the barrel I havn't seen it a friend has it he switched for a longer bull barrel and my dad has a Standard model I thouht it would be neat to put the bull barrel on it

Yes HD, they all interchange. The Early std models had different gripscrew spacing on the lower, but all the uppers have been the same for 60+ years.

My circa '78 Black Eagle Mk1 Target will take a newfangled Gemtech supressed upper without any mods or alterations. And a new Mk 3 upper off a .22/45 will slap right on a Ruger std.

Yes, that is correct. The barrel is a separate part and is screwed into the receiver.

BTW, pay the tax and get you a supressed upper for your ruger mk or std. They are loads of fun.

Barrel change is tricky on those Rugers, because of the way they are made. The barrel is made, threaded and the feed ramp cut. Then it is screwed into a threaded tube. Using the feed ramp as a reference point, the tube (receiver) is then cut for the ejection port, the magazine opening, and so forth. So each barrel and receiver are tailor made to each other, which is why Ruger advises that barrel replacement is a factory job.

I have changed exactly one barrel on a Ruger Mark-series pistol. Not sure how much I would charge to change another one, but it would be expensive.

Its easier and cheaper to just order another upper thants already barreled.

yeah it's the whole upper, I don't even know how to remove the bbl from the upper receiver

Its threaded just like a rifle is. But as Jim stated Ruger threads them on and then finishes them on the mill which makes each barreled upper slightly unique.
